floyd the barber Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 He was by all reports a success while on loan at blackpool and scored a few goals. He comes back and puts in a good performance against villa...and apart from another good showing against oldham..we have hardly seen him.Surely he represents a good option and to me seems more attacking/exciting/dynamic than Henderson...I'd love to see jonjo given some more chances as I reckon he's a real talent.

Despite the goals I think he was getting mixed reports at Blackpool wasn't he? But either way, having brought him back, in a side desperately lacking goals, I'd have liked to have seen a good bit more of him possibly as you say in place of Henderson (who I rate) at times. I think part of the problem is they may be reluctant to play him and Gerrard together.
Epic Swindle Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I'd have played him yesterday but instead of Adam. Henderson might not be dynamic but he does a lot of unseen work for the side, which isn't doing him any favours tbh. He's a ball player, get him on the ball and not chasing shadows.
Leo No.8 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Yeah every time he gets pitch time I think he looks a player, today was no different.
PhilM Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Yeah, but it would have been nice if he'd put some clothes on.
richwilks Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Yeah every time he gets pitch time I think he looks a player, today was no different. Got a very good footballing brain. He always seems to find space.
fred milne Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Got a very good footballing brain. He always seems to find space. He's got that personality on the pitch that Henderson can lack at times.
Hassony Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's got that personality on the pitch that Henderson can lack at times. He is comfortable to try and take control of the game and dictate it Hendo isn't at the moment
épieur Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's got that personality on the pitch that Henderson can lack at times. Yep. Price tag aside, I must admit I don't really get why Henderson is so cemented as a first-teamer whilst Shelvey is lucky to get a sub appearance. They don't strike me as that far from each other in terms of talent and Shelvey arguably provides something we need a lot more right now than Henderson. He really should be getting more game time.
Cooldude Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's very good, good enough to start every second game.
johngibo YPC Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's very rawWe'll do the right thing with himPlaying him alongside Gerrard in a 2 yesterday just would have meant Gerrard had to play deeper, and he is rubbish out wide
Earl Hafler Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's got that personality on the pitch that Henderson can lack at times. Indeed. Henderson has played too much this season. Might be a player in a couple of years but he's done little to justify his presence in the side, especially since Shelvey returned from Blackpool.
richwilks Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I think Shelvey is quite raw compared to Henderson. He's got more ability IMO but Henderson is the better all round player at the moment and that's why he gets the games.
Conrad Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I'll back kenny's judgement on what he sees week in week out at melwood, personally I've yet to see anything from shelvey that warrants him starting any more than occasionally. while henderson has struggled to impose himself at times, he looks a lot less raw than shelvey
Kahnee Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Henderson might not be dynamic but he does a lot of unseen work for the side. Such as?
blago Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Not sure if Shelvey can be trusted to play in CM. Plenty of ability but nowhere near as composed as Henderson. He may be able to play the attacking midfielder/in the hole position but he is behind other players in the pecking order.
torn Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I think he looks likea real player. Always looks confident and composed and is neat with the ball, and he scores goals. I'm surprised he doesn't get more playing time too.
Hassony Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 It's unseen. to question it would be an insult to King Kenny
Ombudsam Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He's got that personality on the pitch that Henderson can lack at times. agreed. he wants to make things happen and be the main man
RafaShanks Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Should have stayed at Blackpool. Can't understand why we recalled him back if he's never gonna play.
Dule Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I would loan him out to an EPL club for the season. Look at Cleaverly and Wiltshire, the benefit they had of an entire season on loan at a smaller club in the EPL. As good as the championship is for our youth, players like Shelvey should only be loaned out to the EPL teams. There are a few others in the reserves that could fall into that category too.
