Billy Dane Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Very sad. I'm sure depression is a big problem with players coming to the end of their careers. By and large football is all they've known in their lives and clubs and the PFA should be playing a big part in preparing them for life after football. Be interesting to know how active Gordon Taylor and the PFA are in this area. I get the perception it's still an area that people within the game don't fully recognise as an issue.
Leo No.8 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Gordon Taylor is too busy being the biggest f*cking pr*ck to walk the planet to do anything so positive and useful as helping ex players deal with depression.
Montse Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 V sad and I hope he gets himself sorted out. These sportsmen only know sport unfortunately and are often not prepared for a life after and dont have a fallback plan especially if they arnt the smartest - clubs and the FA do have to have a responsibility similar to the way the MoD are getting themselves into gear with ex-servicemen.
Buzz Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 42 again, I wonder if this is a common age for this sort of thing. Maybe the midlife crisis really does exist and isn't just a term or figure of speech. Very sad. I'm sure depression is a big problem with players coming to the end of their careers. 'We are all in football, we are all Laaads, real men, this lot just need to give themselves a good slap and get on with it', sort of attitdue. The only one who has done anything is an explayer who went through his own demons and that is Tony Adams, but that just deals with the exccesives, drink, gambling, sex, not the come down at the end of it all.
Damian_de Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Maybe the midlife crisis really does exist and isn't just a term or figure of speech.Well, durr.
Des Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Be interesting to know how active Gordon Taylor and the PFA are in this area. I'm going on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, but I would guess that he's not remotely f**king active at all.
Swan Red Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I'm going on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, but I would guess that he's not remotely f**king active at all. I think the most at risk demographic is the least sexy tbh and I'm not sure I'd trust them to get involved.

Taylor is paid a ridiculous sum to look after players and their interests. If he's not willing, or incapable, of doing that then he should be sacked.
muleskinner Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Windass wasn't really cut out for a career in punditry.
