I went to the dentist recently and had a tooth out, I had another one out about 6 months ago and wanted to get it replaced as its a molar and the gap is a pain when eating anything crunchy like a biscuit or a cream cracker.. Anyway discussing the various options with the dentist he gave me 3 choices:

Get a small plate put in - he said this would be the poorer choice as it could/would damage the teeth around it

Get a bridge - but this would need one of the teeth next to it being pared down a lot which would damage it and the added bonus that is the bridge came out if could damage the teeth on either side

The third option I expected was a crown, but he said 'implants' which he said would cost a few thousand pounds. I was thinking WTF, or I would have been if half my face wasnt aching from the extraction I'd just had done.

I dont fancy paying 'thousands' but also dont fancy using my gum where I should have a molar, is it not possible to have a crown put in on the upper jaw about 3 teeth from the back? Or is this not an option seeing as I had the tooth that was there removed 6 months ago? (Yeah I know I should have asked all these questions but didnt, and I do plan on getting a second dentist to have a look)

Anyone had implants done and willing to offer advice. I'm in Scotland so if any of our Scots members can recommend a dentist who does this all the better, my dentist doesnt offer this service.
