Black Sabbath guitarist fighting cancer

Black Sabbath co-founder and lead guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with cancer.

The legendary riff monger's team announced Monday that Iommi had been hit with the early stages of lymphoma, and that he is "currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan."

Iommi's team said he was "determined to make a full and successful recovery."

The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Black Sabbath's original lineup - singer Ozzy Osbourne, Iommi, bassist Terry (Geezer) Butler and drummer Bill Ward - were reuniting to record their first album since 1978's Never Say Die.

The album will be produced by Rick Rubin, known for bringing acts back to their roots (ie. Johnny Cash, Metallica), and will be released in the fall. The band also announced it was planning to tour.

In order to accommodate Iommi's recovery process, the recording sessions will now be moved to the UK.
