That would be...Martin Skrtel

 

He has had a fantastic season..and for me, our player of the season so far.

In past seasons... for one that looks like a monster he played like a bit of a wimp, yet now he really seems to be showing the potential that the mean face and angry man tattoos suggested.

He always seems to win his headers(something that never seemed to happen) hes actually passing the ball out of defence (instead of just hoofing it) and seems to display confidence in tight situations at the back. I honestly had written him off and figured we would need a new center back, but alongside Agger he looks magnificent..now obviously having the quality of Agger alongside has helped...still no one can doubt the contribution Martin has made to our impressive goals conceded tally.

 

Arise Sir Martin....you have been fantastic so far, keep it up!

Injuries prevented this and the presence of Carra. When Skrtel arrived it was widely agreed that him and Agger would be our future center backs. At last it is happening and we're outstanding defensively again.

Said it before but it's almost entirely down to him playing on the right of the two ch's. Hats off to him, his confidence slowly came back and right now he's doing just about everything right.

Hehe. That's a big call from the man who said Poulsen is 20 times the player Lucas is.

Skrtel has been boss this season - he was much improved in the second half of last season but still looked like he had a mistake in him.

 

He has taken it up another level now and looks generally very solid - but one little weakness he still has is judging the ball in flight. Thought he misjudged the cross which eventually led to the Newcastle goal last night and flicked it on instead of heading it right away from danger.

 

The ball then reared up at Johnson who was expecting Skrtel to head away, he made a bit of a mess of getting rid of it and the ball ended up in the net shortly after. Its a small thing though when you look at how well Skrtel is playing in general and that clearance off the line was a bit special. Another time nothing comes from it, its forgotten.

 

The back four is set in stone at the moment, look a superb unit in every respect. Agger and Skrtel look an oustanding partnership - Agger for me has been our player of the season so far; would have been Lucas but with his injury and Suarez not scoring enough goals to back up his oustanding general play I think Agger has been our most consistent outstanding performer. If he can stay injury free he'll be considered one of the best in the game in his position.

He's playing very well now though which is good.
