Swan Red Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 apparently the c*** that is Ivan Yates advised Liverpool fans they need to get over the boycott of the S*n, I didn't hear this but if anyone did or if there's a link or something I can use later can you please let me know. Cheers

Boca Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Ivan Yates can f*** off for himself. Failed politician. Failed businessman.
dorgie Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) The obnoxious Hillsborough coverage aside, why anyone would be advocating that paper is beyond me. Ivan Yates is a former government minister and owner of a betting shop franchise that went down the swanee - there must be money in it for him to come out with this s***. In light of all that went on this year in the UK in relation the NOTW and the tabloid industry in general, the sooner they disappear down the gutter, the better. Any time I see someone reading it on the train in the morning, it immediately gives me a character reference on said person. Edited December 22, 2011 by dorgie
diggy Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Newstalk was decent when it started and it had interesting new presenters with plenty to say, but in the past 12/18 months they have all got very big opinions and airs of self-importance, so they like to say things that makes them stand out, the presenters on Off the Ball been prime examples - its all about them now. Plus it employed Eamon Dunphy, who left cause he didn't think the bosses were looking after its staff well enough - his Roy Keane in Saipan moment but no-one cared. Never listen to it now, Ivan Yates is a plonker who likes to think he is very relevant, he is only known cause of his failings, which sums up the majority of people with platforms over this side of the lake. Any station that suggests people should buy a rag like the S*n, Liverpool supporter or ordinary joe soap, needs to have a look at themselves.
Maldini Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I assume it was some sort of nouveau-football-fan cutesie banter in a "ah would ya's not just get over it lads" way? Nothing annoys me more than people pontificating about things they don't understand. Newstalk is full of them these days.

aka Dus Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 This would be Ivan doing his folksie "sure I am only a farmer from Wexford who likes his bit of betting" spin of himself that he uses as a presenting persona. He frequently and purposefully drives a verbal 4x4 over contentious issues in order to create a niche for himself as a radio presenter and stir up debate. His amusing but highly artificial good cop bad cop routine with his co-presenter is part of that. I like Ivan and I put this (I didn't hear it to be fair) in that box of him being controversial for the sake of it. My guess is that he doesn't give a shiny s**** about the Sun issue and is simply stirring to get people texting in to Newstalk. Tomorrow it will be him sticking it to some other cause celebre and watcing the SMS machine in Newstalk light up.
Kahnee Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 ivan yeates is an @rsehole Is that his Twitter name?

If it's as reported then he's a c***, I don't care if he's a nice guy he's a d****ead for using something as emotionally sensitive as this irrespective of his actual position or his actual reasoning

But then he was a TD for 16 or 17 years so he is, in fact, a professional d****ead of long standing.
Swan Red Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 TBF I've only been here for 8 years so I may be wrong but anyone here who fails as a bookie has to be an absolute t**
Case Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I'm Irish and I've never heard of Ivan Yates. This comment would also look good on a (admittedly cheap) T-shirt.

It's no excuse though, it's an incredibly sensitive issue and should be treated with appropriate respect. He's basically trolling Liverpool fans to earn money (30c a text) for his station.
Kop_on Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 He said it in two parts, I didn't hear the first part, the second part was more of a synopsis of what he had said an hour previous. He basically said that Liverpool FC has a need to feel victimised, and that Suarez racism case was the latest in the line. He said Boris Johnson tried to raise this before & was pilloried. In relation to the S*n, the direct quote is "when do you let it go?" It's obviously had its desired purpose - there's a thread about him on here isn't there? Thommo regularly contributes to that programme, and takes Ivan head on. If someone could get in touch with Thommo & let him know of these comments I'd love Thommo to take him down a peg or two. An opportunity to increase the awareness of the injustices & the reasons behind the boycott

Epic Swindle Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 He basically said that Liverpool FC has a need to feel victimised, and that Suarez racism case was the latest in the line. Kinhell, is this s*** still going on? I think the fight for justice and what has come out recently is enough to put all this "victim" stuff to bed. We are dealing in facts, it's everyone else who is projecting their own insecurity and victimisation.

That Liverpool fans outside of Liverpool don't have any right to protest against this rag like anyone within the city boundaries. Is this a dig at people deemed to be riding coat-tails or something. Please correct me if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, but we're pretty much experts on measuring the degree of any monopoly on pain over here. If you're saying we should butt out, then I've never been so offended by anything on this forum.
Swipe Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Gibo's comment puzzled me too. I'm maybe reading it wrong.
Hightown Phil Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Buy what you like, as in make your decision, not listen to some buffoon on the radio.
