Pepe or Clem?

Having an ongoing argument with my mates - I am in Pepe's corner and although I recognise how brilliant Clem was I think Pepe is a better all round keeper.

Elisha Scott. How old are you by the way?

You weren't old enough to have seen Clem then were you...

FWIW I barely was, I'm 40, but he was the best British keeper by a mile and miles better than the most overrated of all time, Shilton.

Brucie is my favourite goalkeeper.

Thankfully there were a few class ones, and Pepe is one of them.

Only really remember Clemance at Spurs because of my age.

Pepe just over Brucie for me but between both of them we had a right pile of s*** ones.

Clemence

Shilton was an excellent keeper, btw.

Ridiculously flat footed for a keeper of his reputation. s*** in the air as well.

Perhaps by Italian 90

But he was an excellent keeper. Fantastic reflexes.

Hand of God 4 years earlier - just sayin'. I remember us t***ting 4 past him at Anfield and he was out of position for everyone of them.

Great shot stopper (back handed compliment for a keeper these days) , I remember the older generation on the kop talking about him being good for the showbiz saves.

He was unbelievable the night they knocked us out of the European Cup @ Anfield

And Clem let Kenny knock it through his legs with a child's shot

Just sayin !

Plenty on YouTube for anyone who wants to have a look

He was never the quickest with his feet, but that deflected free-kick of Brehmes, fecking hell he made a right mess of that. Lead boots.

I can just remember Clemence, although my opinion of him is based mostly on highlights, so for me it's Reina. However, i think Pepe is playing slightly below his peak form of a few years ago. And the kicking isn't as good as it was.

Clemence invented the keeper as sweeper. Shilton was awful at that - gave away goals at least twice with air shots when running out to clear, once to lose the League Cup. Clemence simply conceded fewer goals than him, without the flashy stuff and histrionics. Edges over Pepe, but only just, and Pepe is still young.

Point of order - Tommy Lawrence was the original sweeper keeper.

someone chested the ball past him and Andy f***ing Gray gleefully whacked the ball in to an empty net?

Shilton still carries some blame

and I was at England v Germany in Italia 90, the useless flat footed nowhere-near-saving-a-penalty plodder
