Electric Razors

I've never used one before, but my wife bought me one a while ago, so I thought I'd try it. It's like shaving with your eyes closed using a blunt razor. Has left much of my face red raw , while in many places having still failed to perform the primary function of shaving, namely, removal of facial hair. Spent far longer with this (and still failing) than I ever had with a wet shave.

 

Is this what they're like for everybody? WTF is the point of them? Is it some kind of longstanding joke?
