Epic Swindle Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 When I do my thing the crowd go bananas. Back heel at 1.33.
Bigal Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 that turn and run at old trafford with the cross was ace as was the goal there too
Epic Swindle Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Truly amazing player. People talk about pace these days but look at his balance. He used to glide past players,
stressederic Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 That freekick against Arsenal at Anfield was absolute perfection.
heighway Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) Sublime player. What a shame that team wasn't able to play in European Cup Edited November 18, 2011 by heighway
Ronnie#5 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 My favourite Liverpool player of all time. A f***ing genius
doug_mac Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 a really world class player he would walk into any liverpool team from any era and would have walked into any team on the planet when he was in his pomp if we could find a winger half as good we would in business
Nerik Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 His crosses were unique. The ball would just float into a position where the attacker could slam it home. Whenever he had the ball down our left I always felt we could score.
Billy Talbot Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) He was magic. I remember when he signed my dad said... "he's not a Liverpool player, he's the icing on the cake". I don't like icing but I f***ing love Johnny Barnes. We need a new one... Edited November 19, 2011 by Billy Talbot
Tommy Cockles Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) How funny. I sent that clip to someone in work yesterday who asked me who the best player I'd ever seen was. He was a nice guy as well, he signed my season ticket in 1990 and I had a good chat with him. He was wearing a terrible purple suit jacket though. Edited November 19, 2011 by Tommy Cockles
floyd Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) I remember the dogs abuse Barnesy got playing for England in the early nineties, and forgot all about this. In a 1994 World Cup qualifying game against San Marino, Barnes was booed by an entire section of England supporters at Wembley after a poor performance by the whole team. Barnes later believed an article attibuted to Jimmy Greaves which had appeared in the Daily Mirror in which his loyalty to England- citing his supposed support for the West Indies Cricket team- was questioned, had helped influence the booing in the crowd First game against Arsenal, along with Beardsley, and you thought "Yep, this man is a bit special" The one thing that did let Barnesy down, like Tommy Cockles said, was his horrendous suit jackets. Probably on a par with Barry Venison for his "choices" of stylish clobber Edited November 19, 2011 by floyd
Falconhoof Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 wasn't he being booed by the England fans and then scored a brace against Holland in a friendly, including an incredible curling free kick ?It deffo happened more than once anyway.

jas Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I reckon this clip gets put on here about every 6 months. It's f***ing brilliant. All time favourite player. The only time I've seen him in the flesh was after the Juve game in '05 when he was walking along Anfield Road-god knows how long it must've taken him with all the people stopping him to shake his hand.
Duncan Disorderly Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 He had two left feet. But what a sweet left foot he had!

Seen him in town all the time. He used to go for a shave in quiggins and wasn't shy of a night out. The guy is a bonafide legend, and not just because of his ability. There was plenty of black footballers at the time but he broke a lot of those barriers down and forced a lot of fans, including our own, to challenge their own ignorance.
Stevie H Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) He had two left feet. But what a sweet left foot he had!his right foot was extremely good. far, far better than most left-footed players' right feet in fact. he could do everything really, as evidenced by his move into centre mid later in his career. as a winger he was two-footed, had great pace, touch, strength of a centre back, balance to die for. he was even good in the air. that he was able to see things a second or two before all other players on top of all that made it almost unfair. was just a joy to watch his entire career. Murphman Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 The take and finish on 5.00 is as good as I've ever seen.
Gambit Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Ridiculously good footballer. He'd be worth £50M in today's market.
smithdown Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Good times Brilliant header away at Villa in the cup
