Seeing Fowler's goal (vs. Brann), in the Joy of Six thread. a couple of the (original) Ronaldo goals in the Messi thread and then seeing a show Fox were airing about the FA cup made me think of some of the amazing moments - not just goals that easily fade into memory.

One of the FA cup clips was from the 1991 cup final. I had forgotten what an awful, insane tackle it was by Gascoigne (where he did his own knee in). I remember it was bad, but the reality is worse than the memory Here

The funny thing is that he didn't even get booked for it, and had already got away with

This one earlier - again without a booking. Pretty sure both tackles would have been straight reds these days, even in a cup final.

On a brighter note, our 2 goals from the '92 cup final.

Still find it strange that Michael Thomas played for us after what he did in 89  nice goal though, and Rush made his look so, so easy...

They were both reds back then. I was 9 and I knew that.

These days then yeah deffo reds unless Howard Webb decides that he's refereeing the world cup for TV audiences as opposed to according to the rules.

I was at that game, among the Spurs fans. Got a free ticket through winning a lottery through the Saturday League I played in and thought, 'Why not?'.

Was bored s***less.

Crap game, had no affinity with anyone.

Nostalgia for me was us away at Wolves, needing to draw to win the League in '76 ahead of QPR and losing till way into the second half, then Kennedy and Keegan (and Tosh), I think? Scored for us which also sent Wolves down. Didn't know the result till watching Sportsnight with David Coleman, in B&W well after 10pm

I was watching it in the pub and everyone was gobsmacked - crazy start to the game.

That Milan team was superb. Always admired Daniele Massaro

Edit: Just checked Wiki and his goals record certainly wasn't what I remembered!

Games Goals

452 87

He was better on Sensible Soccer, although i usually had Vialli and that Swiss lad Alain Sutter, whom i'd never heard of but was faster than owt.

Gazza lost the plot that day from which he never recovered.

If we are to believe the stuff he came out with recently, and his mania at the time seems to bear this out, he would routinely start games after drinking up to 9 brandies and snorting lines of beak to counter the alcohol!

Cheers Cunny - that's great.

I was actually looking at old footage of Euro Championships a few days ago - some of the '84 stuff is boss.

Only realised a few days ago just how close we were to getting Dundee United in the European Cup final the same year.
