nick1892 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Any advice on good places to park on matchday please? Ideally within 15 mins walk of the ground and no more than a tenner. Thanks.

Depends what time you plan on getting there. If you're 90 minutes or so before kick off you should still get free on-road parking up on St Domingo Road by the Merebank pub. I should add it will take you ages to get away, pretty much wherever you park. Edited November 13, 2011 by kop205
Cam Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 The car park at the end of Cherry Lane, opposite the MOT garage and taxi club; it's some kind of conference/commercial centre. £5, manned by a couple of staff, gated and a nice 15-min stroll up through the cemetery & across Stanley Park. Never had a problem and wouldn't expect one. It's rarely full so turning up half an hour before kick-off would be fine.

Blimey, that brings back memories, I used to park just up from the Merebank about a decade ago and yep, it was shocking getting back to the M6. Bang on the E.Lancs road too - traffic as bad as everywhere else?

It's on the street so it's FOC and the fact that there are signs up saying 'residents permit holders only' puts a lot of people off, when, in fact , the permits are only to cover one side of the streets.

Looks just the job.
Cam Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Right at the end, on the other side of the road to Cherry Lane Motors? Bang on the E.Lancs road too - traffic as bad as everywhere else? That's the one. Traffic's pretty good if you avoid Walton Hall Ave and Queen's Drive. I just head back along Cherry Ln, onto Utting Ave, then Townsend Ave but you could be heading south. Thanks for the advice re. Walton Village. I've never crossed Walton Hall - i just figured it was so close to Goodison that it's bound to permit-only. There are some spaces along Cherry Ln but they get filled up quickly.

Don't mind paying a fiver to be honest if there's no on street left, especially if you've used the gated one in Cherry Ln in the past without any problems. Am going north by the way, so I'll be getting back on the E.Lancs.
Sion Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Park by Sandhills and walk like I do. Top red parking area that.
Clay Davis Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Park by Sandhills and walk like I do. Top red parking area that.or if you can't be arsed walking from there get the Soccer Bus up from outside Sandhills. Sorted.

I go by the pitzSandhills is a bit of a mission I nearly always make it to the pitz before the soccerbus overtakes me. Plus on the way back the queue can get ridiculous.Guaranteed a spot as well, I often can't get there till 30 mins beforehand so can't be driving around looking. Walk never takes more than 15 minutes either.
Jiggy Hates Jazz Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I park at Woodison. A tenner and gated and only ten minute walk through Stanley Park.
Falconhoof Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 how much are you meant to give the kids for minding your car ?

johngibo YPC Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 how much are you meant to give the kids for minding your car ? We give £2. He seems happy. He asks for £3 if people ask, but we're on a loyalty scheme
Andy Mac Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 We give £2. He seems happy. He asks for £3 if people ask, but we're on a loyalty scheme I usually introduce an element of results driven bonus. £1 as an initial payment and £1 when you get back to the car and all is in order. There's only an upside to this schedule of payment. The car is sound when you get back and / or the kid has made so much money he can't be arsed to wait around for the extra quid... if he is, then pay the guy.
Falconhoof Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 We give £2. He seems happy. He asks for £3 if people ask, but we're on a loyalty scheme I got asked for £5 once. I was most insulted because it was a clear sign that he thought I was some kind of naive wool, which I basically am but not as much of one as he thought.I'd rather go in the car parks to avoid that kind of subtle sleight.

It's some time around Christmas.a girl walks up to me, holding a near-empty glass, and deliberately drops it on the floor.she then starts wailing that I knocked her drink and have to buy her another one.a group of her mates surround me, yelling.I feel much like you with the fiver. I find myself saying: "Do I look like a f***ing tourist?"
Falconhoof Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Ooh, that sounds like an uncomfortable scene. did you buy her the drink in the end ?
