In an attempt to avoid thinking about football, I've turned to some household tasks.

Our main living room is above our garage. It was added to the house long after the house was initially built so the garage was built with a concrete roof, and then this room was built on top of it. none of the central heating from the house heats the room because there are no ducts / vents. The room also has 3 outside walls and 4 windows. It's great in the summer, but freezing in the winter.

My wife seems to think putting insulation in the ceiling of our garage will make the room above less cold, but since we don't heat the garage I don't think it's worth spending the time / money to do this (i.e. it's not as if lots of heat escapes from the garage, and since our room isn't heated (and we have a concrete barrier anyway - it's not as if we can be losing too much heat down into the garage...).

does anybody know about this sort of (horribly boring but necessary) stuff?
