domlfc Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) In 5 months time on April 12th 2012 I am going to run from Hillsborough to Anfield for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign. I know I have posted very early but I want to get things organised and allow time for any problems that may arise. The plan is to do two days running 30 miles and then do 17 miles around the city on the morning of the Fulham game on the 14th April and arrive at the HJC shop about an hour before kick off. Now I have worked the distance out using aa route planner so it could be very different, this is why I am opening this thread, so people with far more brains than I can point me in the right direction. Thanks all, Dom http://www.hillsborough-anfieldrun.co.uk Edited November 23, 2011 by Nathan Explosion Modified site url to make it clickable.
Tosh Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 You may want to ask on somewhere like Bikely - someone could cycle it and let you know the route Tracklogs might also work: I have that but it's best then downloaded onto a GPS unit as Tracklogs takes the OS landranger series so you could take canal towpaths, footpaths etc which the AA won't use (at a guess). I can't get on Tracklogs til weekend of the 12th so if you're in a hurry....
Mike Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Impressive s*** that lad, make sure you get it well publicised. (Some serious f***ing hillage as well )
domlfc Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Is that game in danger of being moved? If it is moved I will just move my run to nearest home game. No big hurry, as you can imagine this will take a lot of planning and want to do it properly. Impressive s*** that lad, make sure you get it well publicised. (Some serious f***ing hillage as well )Cheers Mike, that is exactly why I am starting to put things together now, 5 months will soon come and go. Or mapmyrun.comDone it on map my run just now and has it at around 70 miles, cheers
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 seriously impressive this doubt I'll be in the UK for it, but if I can wrangle it I'd be interested in doing it
Behind Enemy Lines Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I have a friend who does ultra distance runs - 100 miles through the lakes ect. I'll see if she has any advice if you wish.

domlfc Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 seriously impressive this doubt I'll be in the UK for it, but if I can wrangle it I'd be interested in doing itIf you are here you are welcome, do want to keep the numbers down though, was thinking 6 at most as I was planning to do it solo. It could become a nightmare if too many run. I have a friend who does ultra distance runs - 100 miles through the lakes ect. I'll see if she has any advice if you wish. That would be great, this will be the first of 3 long runs I have planned for 2012, cant wait.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I dunno - get a bunch of people involved, think of the PR
domlfc Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 I dunno - get a bunch of people involved, think of the PRThis is the first time I have tried to organise this kind of thing Macca and to be quite honest I don't have a clue. I am happy to listen to anyone with ideas but when I had this idea back in August, it was something I imagined doing on my own or with 5 select people. Do you think more people running would mean more PR? I think if I can get the right people shouting about it then the number of runners doing it won't really matter. I also think the logistics become an absolute nightmare when you make the numbers so much bigger, what do you think?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 yeah, but if you leave it informal, a bit like the Beefy walking or charity things, let people do their own thing. I just thought if you had say even 20 doing it you could probably milk some PR - local news etc - quite easily. I reckon Molby would be good at this
Behind Enemy Lines Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I think having a few more will help with the logistics and support.Sally had three people meeting her at various places when she did the 100 miler.Getting food, drink, change of clothes ect will be important. Ideally a support car or at least a bike with bits and pieces and the route on gps.

When will you know if you are back in the UK or not? Ideally a support car or at least a bike with bits and pieces and the route on gps.Yeah I think a large support team is going to be a must, and this is another reason for keeping the numbers fairly low, though I think Macca's number of 20 could be doable it would raise the number of people needed to support quite considerably.
Molby Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I don't reckon I'd have any more insight to this than anyone on here the idea is to raise awareness and maybe raise money so I'd get on to the HJC first and see what they suggest in terms of PR but my instinct would not too try to go to big on numbers for the reasons you state Dom this is no mean undertaking even if you had only yourself to worry about so I'd probably get the personnel set up and guaranteedthen contact HJCfind a journalist to help you, via something immediately accesible like TAWfrom there get the club involved you could , for example, aim to be running in to the stadium to finish off, before a live game near the anniversary, just before k.o. that would raise awareness 'cos it would be on tv I know that's a bit mad but what the hell? worth aiming for

The club have not got back to me yet, not holding my breath though and am equally happy for it to finish at the HJC shop outside the ground. Be great if the club come good for this though, raise the publicity level a fair bit I would think. Thanks for your input anyway!
domlfc Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 My Twitter address is @domlfc, reckon this could be another good tool to get the word out there. Any of you lot on here that use it could you follow me and maybe tweet about the run. Thanks, Dom
domlfc Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 I am going to run this with 5 others, I have one already, if anyone off here is interested just message me. Also, if anyone would consider giving up two and a half days of their time to this as part of a support team please message me.

domlfc Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 what would that entail Dom?Nothing specific, unless there is a physio amongst us willing to give up a couple of days! I am thinking a couple of cars so two drivers, someone to make sure each runner is looking after himself/herself properly ie taking on fluids regularly. Someone who knows what they are doing navigation wise, would be a disaster if we went the wrong way!! Really just throwing a few thoughts out at the minute, loads to plan but I want to be a good way through planning before the new year.
domlfc Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 So far I have two drivers sorted, one runner, maybe some sponsorship to help the runners and am hoping to have a website up and running by the end of next week. As I have said already, anyone wishing to take part or help with runner support just message me, or any ideas you may think helpful just post, thanks again, Dom.
