Epic Swindle Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Getting peed off with the amount of time this yard dog is taking to prepare for one of his missiles. From the towel to watching their whole defence trundle up the pitch it must be a good 40 seconds every time. I'm unsure how it doesn't equal time wasting. We don't allow a keeper to hold onto the ball longer than necessary so it shouldn't be any different for a set piece. I'm not against it as a tactic but if it's not within the rules it certainly isn't within the spirit of the game and I don't think it would be allowed at any other ground. Nerik Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 The wiping of the ball is silly to say the least. When they come to Anfield we should hand him some wet wipes.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 they only scored something like 4 from them last year
Cam Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 It is an amazing thing to watch though. He throws, it arcs, it begins to dip, and when you expect it to fall to the ground it's like an invisible man grabs it, hoists it above his head and runs an extra 20 yards with it.
Rimbeux Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Stoke games generally have 9min less ball in play than the the average of Man U ones. Pulis can never, ever complain about time wasting.
drdooom Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 When did he start doing these throw ins? How is it that this talent was only discovered as late in his career as it was? He could have played for Real, Barca etc if only he'd been doing them in his early twenties.
Stevie H Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 which club was it used to have the ball boys wearing gloves made of towel material? they did the ball wiping for the player who was taking the throw.

His wiki page actually lists all the goals scored from his throws, something like 42 in his career and about 35 of them in the last 4/5 years or so with Stoke. It is some record, and even 'just' 4 a season isn't bad when you consider most teams probably score 0 from throw-ins. Agree with all the comments on the time wasting side of it though. It is a f***ing joke. The way their fans cheer when they get a throw is nuts. Still, can't have long left in the game - although I suppose that given that he is only in the side for that one thing and they carry him other than that, he may be around for 2 or 3 more years yet.
smithdown Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 the stupid look on his grid while he's at it does my swede in as well I don't get how a ref will book a player for timewasting if he does a false run up to take a free kick or something or but this blirt gets ten goes a game where the paying public have to entertain themselves
stressederic Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I don't remember him ever doing those throws when he played for Derby.

smithdown Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I don't think we scored 4 from corners last year did we? The Greek must have got 4

drdooom Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I wonder if, when he felt his legs were starting to go, thought f*** it, I still have two arms. Started staying late after training to do throw ins like other players do free kicks and so on. Started going to the gym to build up more arm muscle strength. Pulis, watching him from afar in the dusky evening, nodding sagely as the throw ins grew longer and longer.. I'm picturing a Rocky style montage here. Jumpers for goalposts.
Raj Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 which club was it used to have the ball boys wearing gloves made of towel material? they did the ball wiping for the player who was taking the throw. Cambridge United used to have all sorts of similar tricks back in the early 90s
Murphman Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Cambridge United used to have all sorts of similar tricks back in the early 90s Under John Beck, the anti Christ of football.
Benzo-13 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I've wondered why no one has a player charge where Delap is throwing it from?

Benzo-13 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 what do you mean?Someone do the mirror image of what he's doing. Run towards him and stop on the line. It's bound to put him off.Be farcical but it'd stop this.

I imagine the opposition conceding bookings and freekicks for obstructing a throw in would prove difficult for him to watch.
Benzo-13 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I imagine the opposition conceding bookings and freekicks for obstructing a throw in would prove difficult for him to watch.Be more interfering with it than obstructing it.Or even put a tall player in front to block his line of vision. Funnily enough that would be deemed an offence.Even if you didn't make contact? I'm not up on throw in etiquette to be honest. As this is like pantomime.

You can use 3rd party objects to gain an advantage and take as much time as you want, but putting him off would be a foul.
