Gambit Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Several foreign-owned Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation, according to League Managers Association (LMA) chief Richard Bevan. Bevan fears that if more clubs are sold to foreigner investors they may have enough votes to force changes. But the Premier League said relegation and promotion were part of its rules and added to league's strength. Bevan hopes that a parliamentary inquiry into football goverance would also help prevent the proposal. "We're very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs," he said. "Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League."If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen."http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15336398.stm This is bizarre. How can you have a league system without relegation and promotion? How do these clubs who want to scrap relegation and promotion think they managed to get into the Premiership in the first place? Stupidest suggestion ever.
Sion Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Could easily be Blackburn, Fulham, Sunderland and QPRBut will no doubt be dressed up as 'foreign owners = bad'Why can't all clubs be owned by respectable people like Peter Ridsdale, Ken Bates or Bill Kenwright
Mooster Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Grrr, foreign owners, coming over here, taking away our promotion and relegation...

Whilst it is a stupid suggestion are you really asking how can you have a league without relegation and promotion? Really?
CarraLegend Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 The LMA whinging about foreigners, theres a surprise!

Stupidest suggestion ever.I reckon the way they see it, they aren't even thinking about that. they bought their way into the PL, if someone wants their place, they should have to buy them out. Or some similar utterly ********* s***. If there is a majority vote for it, I can see the PL breaking up.
libero Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Bevan is making it up as he goes along??Its all what ifs, buts and maybes.
CarraLegend Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 “We have to start considering what the structure of the league is,” Gartside said. “And it is time to look at two Premier Leagues - Premier League One and Premier League Two - and the way the finance is allocated. “You could have 36 Premier League clubs split into 18 and 18 and that would also solve the problems of the winter break and supporting the England team. “I don’t have the answers but it is certainly time for a debate - perhaps even on not having relegation from a second division of the Premier League.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/bolton-wanderers/3251853/Bolton-chairman-Phil-Gartside-calls-for-two-tier-Premier-League-with-no-relegation-Football.html Dirty foreigners.
Sion Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 'have a second league with lots of money too incase we get relegated' says Gartside
drdooom Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How about a Premier League north and a Premier League south and the winners of each face off against each other in the Sky Sports Bowl for all the marbles at the end of the season.
Epic Swindle Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Has there been any uproar over this? You know like when we were being accused of sullying the good name of football by trying to look after ourselves.
Gunga Din Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How about a Premier League north and a Premier League south and the winners of each face off against each other in the Sky Sports Bowl for all the marbles at the end of the season. we could cal it the really super premier league and the winners of the north and south sections could play for the world series. that would be brilliant
MarkD Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 we could cal it the really super premier league and the winners of the north and south sections could play for the world series. that would be brilliantCan we have play offs instead of a season? Everyone loves a play off
dunner74 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Can we have play offs instead of a season? Everyone loves a play off Only if it is a best of 7 playoff.
ManxRed Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Premier League Two. LOL The Sequel! This time its personal!!!
Nebraska Red Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Only if it is a best of 7 playoff. after a 162 game season with 4-5 games a week. do away with divisions and have teams grouped based on geographical location. The Barclays Nortwest would feature Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton, Altrincham, Stockport and Tranmere. The ywould play each other 10 times a season.

ManxRed Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Involving three teams simultaneously, on a triangular pitch.
MarkD Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 sometimes twice in one dayChristmas Day - Tranmere-v-AltrinchamBoxing Day - Altricham-v-TranmereNew Year's Day - Tranmere-v-Altrincham at Chester City's Ground - the decider What's not to like?
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Dear me, it doesnt matter what the leagues are called, the top division will have Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs - these are the attraction. All other divisions wont have these teams so you can call them whatever you like, they wont attract the TV numbers. Premer Lge 2 ? Its called the Championship, which in old money is Division 2.
ManxRed Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Does anyone know if Harry Redknapp has an opinion on this? Oh yeah, apparently he has. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15372575.stm

Presumably the idea is that the two divisions would sell their TV rights jointly and share the proceeds.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Presumably the idea is that the two divisions would sell their TV rights jointly and share the proceeds. And who in the top division would agree to that ?
drdooom Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 And who in the top division would agree to that ? Presumably those who're now looking to sell their rights individually will change their minds when two divisions instead of one will share.
