New York Red Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 We've had sporadic but not great success with old players coming back to do well in our management team. Thommo and Sammy have done OK but haven't been awesome. Kenny has been been a legend. Souey was a disaster and Keegan was and is an absolute sh*thouse. But what about others? The one that sticks in my mind is Sami. He was a tactical genius. His knowledge of his position may well be the best in the world. He loves the club. Why isn't he back with us? Didi is a pretty good shout for that too. I real thinker. I could see him being so beneficial.

Also stating that he will be trying to spend the next year getting a coaching license and plans to coach for his former playing team Bayer Leverkusen. from Wikipedia
New York Red Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 Coaching for Leverkeusen. WTF?????
_00_deathscar Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Markus Babbel. And then about 6-7 years later, Xabi Alonso.
RBM Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Toshack did ok, Phil Neal was crap and Lawerson for all his self regarding expertise was a disaster
Benzo-13 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Markus Babbel. And then about 6-7 years later, Xabi Alonso.Markus is just finding his feet at Hertha at moment but he has said that he's trying to change that clubs mentality.

Sion Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Didi is a pretty good shout for that too. I real thinker. I could see him being so beneficial. He's not being beneficial at Stockport, who are currently 14th in the Conference.
lfc003 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Reminds me of all the calls for Gary Mac to be given a coaching job under Rafa primarily on the basis of being a great player for us and not on his coaching ability. We should never ever go down the jobs for the boys route 'Arry has taken at Spurs, Lets just have the best man for the job if that's a Kevin Keen over a Gary Mac or Didi or a coach with history with us than so be it. New York Red Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) What's Kevin keegan got to do with our management team? Former player. Became a manager. An example of who we could tap into. And man am I glad that we didn't tap into that fool. Edited September 27, 2011 by New York Red
Stevie H Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 why is kevin keegan a 'sh*thouse' and a 'fool'?
sutty Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 why is kevin keegan a 'sh*thouse' and a 'fool'? His record stands up to most to be fair to him. COuldn't organise a back four, obviously. But still...
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 We've had sporadic but not great success with old players coming back to do well in our management team. Not great success?Errrr....
muleskinner Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) why is kevin keegan a 'sh*thouse' and a 'fool'? He was a great player for us, left to go abroad and we got Kenny. There is no downside to his time at LFC for me. Edited September 27, 2011 by muleskinner
Stevie H Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 He was a great player for us, left to go abroad and we got Kenny. There is no downside to his time at LFC for me.there are plenty of our ex-players around who are undeserving of continued respect, but i can't imagine for a moment why NYR would describe keegan in such terms.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 NYR's long professed his hatred for Keegan to be fair
Stevie H Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 of course i'll take your word for that. but 'sh*thouse' and 'fool'? really? i was no massive fan of head over heels in love but think that kind of language about keggy is way out of line.

Chili Palmer Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 it comes from the same place as Andy's hatred for Gerrard: mentalism a distaste for any player who wants to leave LFC. Its also how they handle the leaving and what they say about the club afterward.
New York Red Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Stevie and John, from 73-77 he was an absolute legend for us. Turned in great performance after great performance. Brilliant in the 1974 FA Cup Final and stunning when we beat Moenchengladbach in 1977. He ran Berti Vogts into the ground. But then he f*cking dissed us. For Hamburg FFS. Not unlike McMannaman, Owen or Torres (though to be perfectly hypocritical and honest, I never had a problem with Souey doing it). But, immediately signing Kenny and making 60 thousand on top made me a very, very happy kid. Seeing him tear it up for Celtic and then him really making an impression on me in the 1974 World Cup meant that I thought he was perfect for us (I'd have loved us to sign David Hay too). But then as a manager, he was an absolute t*sser. He bottled it with Newcastle -- he folded like a cheap suit. He was clueless, buying players randomly, and then he packed it in not before humiliating himself by ranting about Rednose. Then for England he packed it in one game into World Cup qualifying. After totally f*cking that game up -- Southgate in midfield? He couldn't stand the heat and quit again. He wasn't done though. He packed it in with Man City too, followed a little while later with another stint with Newcastle where guess what? He packed it in again. He's embarasing. He cut his ties with us decades ago. I know just see him as a serial quitter, a bottler, and an absolutely clueless manager.
Knox_Harrington Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I see him as a good honest fella with flaws.
muleskinner Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) Nyr - As a 'proud welshman' why do you care that he was honest enough to see he couldn't take England any further? Or as Liverpool fan any of the club jobs he quit? He brought a lot of joy to Newcastle fans for a while and had some good days at man city. Edited September 28, 2011 by muleskinner
