Got broken into a few months ago, insurance company accepted the claim. All that was stolen were some very old pieces of jewellery of the wife's she was given by grandmother, mother etc. They were worth a decent amount and the insurance company have recognised this in their offer to us. Our policy is "old for new"

The insurance company have said that we have to buy jewellery from a jewellery catalogue they provide or for us to get vouchers to use in H Samual or Earnest Jones. They are the only options being given. Thing is the wife doesn't want any jewellery as the stolen items were of sentimental value, we would rather have the cash or vouchers for general items such as electrical etc. If we have to buy jewellery then the wife would rather go for some nice antique stuff not some new rubbish from H Samual.

Are the insurance company taking the piss or is this standard?
