Swipe Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 He's retired from football to look after his son who's suffering from cancer. Respect to the man.
Swipe Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Although Henry Winter has now said: "Still trying to establish exactly why Malbranque retired, whether family reasons or possible dispute with his father over move to St-Etienne."
KD07 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Winter can feck off. Give the Steed some space ffs.
Zoob Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 What a strange business: He hasn't retired, and he doesn't even have a son. Link
smithdown Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Must have got him mixed up with someone with the same name.
Swipe Posted September 5, 2011 Author Posted September 5, 2011 Very strange. Henry Winter has already demanded an apology from KD07
drdooom Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Winter is indeed the real victim here, god forbid a journalist would do some fact checking before spreading alleged news.
Leo No.8 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Winter can feck off. Give the Steed some space ffs. Won't somebody think of the children? Especially the non existent ones, they need more attention.
Boca Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Curiouser and curiouser - paulfraserechoPaul Fraser StEtienne have revealed SteedMalbranque has terminated his contract, but not for health problems concerning him or his children. #safc13 minutes agoFavoriteRetweetReply
Cobs Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 BBC saying contract cancelled by mutual consent
Woodsyla Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The one good thing to come out of this was Henry Winter was made to look like a bellend
Swipe Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 The one good thing to come out of this was Henry Winter was made to look like a bellend How?
Woodsyla Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 How?I was under the impression that the original statement was a tweet from Winter followed up with a 'but I'm now doing some research' tweet. If not then stand down.
Leo No.8 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I was under the impression that the original statement was a tweet from Winter followed up with a 'but I'm now doing some research' tweet. If not then stand down. I actually thought it was all over the press as being his son had cancer but Winter questioned it, might be wrong though! I used to like really Winter when Houllier was manager, but he disappeared up his own *rse a few years back.

There are too many instances of journos tweeting any old s**** then blaming the source, thought this was another instance but clearly not.
matty Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Can I be the first to congratulate Malbranque jr on his tremendous recovery? Heart-warming news.
Swipe Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 I was under the impression that the original statement was a tweet from Winter followed up with a 'but I'm now doing some research' tweet. If not then stand down. Winter was one of load of journos and BBC guys who tweeted it so it must have came from a decent enough source. Then Winter said he was looking into it as a question mark over it. Winter would eat himself if he could but not really his fault this time. Clearly Malbranque's kid for making up s***.
smithdown Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Steed Malbranque has not ruled out playing again after one of the most confusing periods of his career. The French midfielder left Sunderland this summer and joined Ligue 1 side St Etienne, only to leave last week amid initial reports he needed to care for his ill son.Malbranque then moved to deny those rumours, revealing he did not have a son, with St Etienne then confirming he had left the club by mutual consent. It was thought his playing days were over as a result, but the 31-year-old has today said he has not yet decided what his next move is going to be."I never said that," he told L'Equipe, referring to suggestions he was retiring."The club said that. I am still hesitant."I cannot put myself in the future."With no ill family members to speak of, Malbranque's decision to walk out on Les Verts so soon into his contract remains an unusual one."I did not take pleasure in training. I tried to be happy but I could not," he said.He has not ruled out a return to England, where he spent 10 years with Fulham, Tottenham and latterly Sunderland, adding: "England probably suited me better." http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/sep/09/premier-league-2011-12
