Golf clubs - advice

Been playing a fair bit of golf recently and have seen my game improve noticeably as a result. As I only have a cheap set of second hand clubs plus a few ad hoc additions, I'm now thiknkning it might be worth upgrading and getting some new clubs for the first time. I'm not a sure a prepackaged set will be the best option so, from any regular players: which brands will give me the best value if, say, I was going to get a new set of irons. Don't want to spend anymore than £200-£250 as I don't think I play often enough or my game is good enough to justify anything more than that. And what do I need to look out for in terms of stuff to advise.
