Car Advice Needed

So, about to start divorce proceedings, need to get a car (wife keeping ours). Got about £3k to spend. Must be an estate, I am a bit of a badge snob (Audi, BMW, Volvo). Kids are 6, 4 and 3.......

 

Any advice on what to look at or avoid?

 

Was thinking A4, Avant, TDi.....
