He's started already.

"People need to be sufficiently aware to realise we are still fighting with lesser resources and we are still pulling rabbits out of the hat to some extent.

"If you spend £100million you are likely to get more or better players than the team that spends £2-3million.

"If you want a Savile Row suit, you pay Saville Row prices but you can still put a suit on your back from Tesco's.

"There are limits and it would be unfair to expect the Tesco man to look as good as the Savile Row man."

Hodgson added: "We are not Manchester City or Liverpool. People talk about spending £50million as if it is nothing at all.

"We talk about net spends of £2-3million if we're lucky. You have to put those things into perspective - and I think our fans can.

"I'd like to think they have got as realistic an attitude towards things as we have."

A response from a West Brom fan reads

"I'm a bit disappointed in Roy - he's starting to sound a bit peeved and negative, like he did at 'Pool....How can he say he hasn't been given money to spend when he has overseen WBA's record fee signing in Shane Long at £6.5 million plus presumabnlty biggish wages (Borja Valero was about £4.7 mill)? He also keeps having little digs at LFC. I can't see the point. He got £7.5 million compensation and should stop feeling hard done by as it will take his focus off the job in hand at WBA.....what's more, all the quotes I have read from Kenny Dalglish all talk of thanking Roy for what he did and the circumstances of him taking over being unfortunate for Roy..Why hold a grudge Mr H? ..And what's all this about Citeh and especially LFC apparently thinking that spending £50 million is nothing? So what. I don't think LFC in particualr see it as nothing, if asnything they've had to defend their spending as being OTT. So my message to Roy is don't start getting all patronising because your first six motnths went well...Keep focussing on WBA and forget about what happened at LFC...you only sound bitter otherwise. Rant over! Thank you."

went on a baggies forum to see what they make of it all. Some of them have swallowed hook line and sinker. re Shane Long:

I trust a manager with 36 years of experience to get this kind of decision right, especially seeing as Shane Long was one of our main targets from earlier in the summer.

First time I've seen that used by anyone other than Roy without a hint of sarcasm.

mamanger

manager of mammaries

He's on SSN now. Its all flooding back. Talking about his dealings in close detail like Redknapp-lite.

'Hopefully we're going to stay up'

Still ambitious as ever.

Wants 11th placed West Brom to finish top half? Nope, wants them to stay up! And wants "boing boing" removed from the "repertoire". What a bizarre man.

It's probably the 2nd most annoying chant in the country in his mind.

was boing boing baggies baggies always referring to their bouncing between divisions?

great response from the West Brom fan, could almost have been written by one of ours other than the absence of the bile that must surely come his way

Having him as our manager was like having a paedophile in the family. Really hope that nobody notices but they did and they not really sure how to apparoach you any more- it wasn't you personally who did anything wrong but you were connected to him!!

11th last season and he's already gearing them up for a fight against relegation, he's a f***ing a****** of a manager. Perfect example of how not to inspire and motivate a team to excel.

How about comparing WBA to the teams around you instead of Man City and us you useless old goat.

And who is he to try and dictate which songs the fans sing? They've been singing boing boing for donkeys years!
