rjlfc Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 So, here we go. How do people honestly think we'll do? I've been suckered into having unrealistic expectations at the start of each season over recent years, even last. Like most of us I presume. This season is different. I love kenny, and I think we've made some solid signings. Adam will give us a bit of forward momentum just infront of Lucas and downing is as good as we've had on the left for a while (not hard I know). Not sure by Henderson yet, looks to have quite a few misplaced passes in him, hopefully he'll improve on this as he's certainly got an engine on him.I think caroll will get better and I think Suarez is world class. So lots of reason for optimism. However, I have a nagging doubt our lack of pace and 'quick movement'. Ibalso dont think our strikers Have decent backup. Ngog clearly isn't wanted or good enough and despite dirks decent cameos up front he was moved away from there long ago as he's not really a striker anymore. I'm also concerned by our defence. I don't think we've ever really replaced hyppia and carra is on the decline. Likewise we are desperate for a lb which we'll lll hopefully solve soon. I'm really looking forward to the season but I think top 4 will be a real battle. Can't think anymore positively than that, but will be chuffed if we do that.
Gunga Din Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 if we dont win the league i'll be demanding Kennys head on a spike
mick Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) Treble or what's da fooken point..... Seriously though a top 4 spot would be a great season and have us going in the right direction. Would gives the owners the confidence to get in 2 or 3 quality players for next season also. Edited August 8, 2011 by mick
Swan Red Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Packet of Tunes comedy genius in a thread that'll probably get lost anyway I'm really excited about the season and expect us to play a lot of great football and batter a lot of teams

Sion Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Our fans are vastly over-rating our chances as a collective bunch. More than they usually do. I'd be made up with top 4.
dorgie Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Kenny so deserves to lead us into a Champions League campaign. The players should sit the f*** down and resolve to do it for Kenny and let nothing stop that from happening.
CarraLegend Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 The only man who can stop us is the King of Corruption which he seems to really enjoy doing.

Nah I'm completely at easy with my expectations this season and if some are over rating our chances it's not a problem unless they start acting like dicks if their expectations are not met it's 5 days before the start of the season and for the first time in three seasons I'm really excited by it
Epic Swindle Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 4th/5th. Not going to predict any better than that at the moment. Be interesting to see if having no Europe gives us an edge, especially when the rest are involved in the big CL KO games.

The sight of Kenny on the touchline last season has brought it all back. There is no one finer in the game.

Benzo-13 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Aim as high as we can get.Kenny knows the score.
Euphrates Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Thirds behind the Mancs.i agree with this. We've signed some good players, don't have Europa distractions and Kenny had us playing some great stuff last year even without Suarez. Arsenal still haven't signed a keeper, a top centre half and any midfielders who aren't young exciting wingers, so I can see us beating them to 4th. Chelsea's a tougher one to predict, if H0ouuse-Snake is as good as last year with Porto suggests he could get good performances out of that aging side, especially if Torres' legs aren't really gone. The Mancs both have some weaknesses, but people wrote off United before last season, although I'm surprised they still haven't signed a holding midfielder... and City apparently aren't even done giving Mancini silly money this window so they're the teams to beat.

I think Jones will play in midfield a bit. I think we can win it, we've big streaks of winnable games so we could build a bit of momentum. Our back 4 still has some question marks over it obviously but I don't think as a team we've any more problems than anyone else.
growler Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I prefer two measures. League position and points off the top. I would think 3rd should be achievable. Would be ok with 4th. Want us within 12-15 points off the top.
Cheesecake Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) 1st and if we cant get first let us be 1 point off the top, failing that 2 points. f*** all this lets come 4th b****x, we are not Spurs, lets come 17th if we cant come towards the top, I'd rather be QPR than Spurs. f*** 4th. LFC is not 4th place FC Edited August 9, 2011 by DPD1973

Maldini Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Ferguson said he reckons 80 points will win it, that's do-able for us.
Cheesecake Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 plus 4 from webb, 5 from atkinson, easy this lark isnt it?
