Nebraska Red Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Clubs fume at plan to make football a summer game http://kopthat.co.uk/2011/08/clubs-fume-at-plan-to-make-football-a-summer-game/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=clubs-fume-at-plan-to-make-football-a-summer-game FIFA chiefs face all-out war with Europe's top clubs over plans to turn football into asummersport. Under the proposals, the Premier League would play throughout the British game's traditional mid-year break, with the season transformed to run from February to November. The initial impetus behind the idea came from UEFA president Michel Platini, who has backed the concept for more than a decade. Despite the outright opposition of the big five leagues - England, France, Spain, Germany and Italy - the plan is now gaining support among FIFA bosses. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Premier-League-furious-at-FIFA-scheme-make-football-summer-game-with-February-to-November-season-article781116.html Is this a good idea? It takes away alot of the crappy weather issues, but could see games played in some really hot weather. (Apologies if posted elsewhere)
Cheesecake Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) why would this gain support amongst FIFA bosses? Oh yeah so they can hold a world cup in the winter months, cant ever see a need for that, oh hang on a second... a brown envelope has just dropped through my letterbox... Nebraska Red Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 I think they are looking to have all the "big" countries playing footy at the same time of the year, evn though many of the players form the southern hemisphere already play in the northern hemisphere. It opens up the potential for cooler weather world cups and European championships, and takes away the issues caused by winter breaks that differ by country.
Cheesecake Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 yes and it allows the european leagues time to line up with a sumer schedule before the fifa-pocket-bursting world cup in Qatar as an aside, any word beginning with Q, not followed by the letter U is just not right.
Zoob Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Is it going to far to hope that the Qatar cup is played in the summer and that Blatter and some of his mates find the heat too much and die?
John am Rhein Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 better solution: scrap the world cup altogether
