Don't know who md is, but retweeted by Heaton. We'd clearly be interested if it was structured around a more stable entry system, rather than finishing fifth in big league being excluded at the expense of champions of tiny ones, but, you know, Murdoch. No worse than the influence he has over the current one I guess.

A company created by media businessman Rupert Murdoch has been working for month on the creation of a European Super League.

The European top clubs have been informed about the Super League project, are interested, but are waiting to see what happens. [md]

FIFA and UEFA or Murdoch?

Would you rather drown or suffocate?

A breakaway from the footballing bodies is such an obvious things for the top leagues to do.

You've got Spain, England, France, Italy and Germany subsidising the whole FIFA operation, yet there are officials from no-mark countries footballing-wise running around making a mockery of the game.

I'm surprised they haven't done it just because of the massive increase of revenue the clubs would have. Let alone the FIFA circus.

it's like choosing darth vader or sauron

why dont the clubs set up their own league, they'd keep more of the money

The other teams would probably benefit from a more competitive league.

Look at what one day cricket did for the game as a comparison.

Personally I am completely against it and believe it will be the beginning of the end of football for most proper supporters. The newer fans I am sure will love as will the owners but the usual people will miss out. The real fans.

Its like the Eurovision. We put the most money in but the other countries still take the piss.

And just like the Eurovision, we should pull out and see how they like FIFA meetings being held at 3 star b&bs rather than 5 star golf resorts.

how do you think?

I'm guessing they generate the most money.

for Fifa?

I'd say that Brazil would generate more money than any of the other international teams

i would think that the Brazilians will be "skiimming off" a good portion of any funds before they get to FIFA. There are alot of palms to grease south of the border.

I think a break away World or Euro league would be the one thing to get FIFA and UEFA to sort out their acts, but I very much doubt that the likes of the Bundesliga, the FA, La Liga and Serie A could never have the balls to make the jump.

well, you'd be wrong. Fifa take cuts from all the regions, UEFA generate far and away the most money, the leagues named above generate the vast majority of the money for UEFA, and the Champions League is their golden goose. if the top leagues f***ed off out of the CL, then there would be no Champions league. it would be financially unworkable

according to this, 93% of their income is event related

the WC is their golden goose

Posted (edited)

The WC is indeed their golden goose. Due to TV rights, sponsorship and advertising. The money from TV rights is largely a product of the amount advertisers are willing to pay.

Why do you think Europe gets half the teams at a World Cup? Or kick off times are scheduled to suit prime time viewing in Europe?
