Reading the 'slag', 'rape' stuff in the Gala game thread on the footy forum got me thinking....

 

Last weekend i was having a chat with mates when we were out on the lash about how acceptable it is to call someone (mates) 'gay' as a jokey diss - something along the lines of

 

"what do you want?"

 

"A bottle of Bud"

 

"Is that because you're gay?"

 

We were saying that in 20 (maybe fewer) years this sort of thing will be a complete no-no, just like the N word.

 

We may say it's lighthearted, it's banter, we're joking (and we are) but to the same end, we wouldn't dream of doing similar in a racist vein rather than homophobic (which is what it is really) vein.

 

Hopefully this won't extend as far as gingers? At least not in my fecking lifetime. We do need some scapegoats
