A few thoughts on it. A great film overall, some fantastic music in there along with some very well put-together footie clips. What a great tournament.

Gascgoigne at that time was fantastic to watch,I was too young to appreciate at the time-but he was a class act. Such ball control, pace and strength. Totally mad at that point too, looking back it was obvious how it was going to go from then.Really sad when you're seeing the clip of Bobby Robson telling him about how there'd be more to come, that this was only his first.

Barnes doesn't get enough credit for how he performed for England. Everybody says he didn't really perform for the international side, but when you look at it he had an impact in both WC 86 and WC 90. Him and Waddle were really good wingers, pace and ability on the ball.

English footie fans were treated like sh*t, by the Government and by the Italian police. Goes hand-in-hand with the myth at the time that the British press (with the backing of the Government of the time) propagated, that hooliganism was the "English disease". Like we were the only ones up to it.

Lothar Matthaus is a class act. There's a shot directly after Waddle missed that penalty, and whilst almost all of the German team celebrated with the keeper,Waddle was walking off. Matthaus forgot about his teammates, and went over to console Waddle for a good long while. Seems like a really classy guy.

Waddle, Barnes, Gascoigne, Beardsley, Lineker , Pearce, Wright in the same team. Best team England had in the last 20yrs.

Scratch Pearce out, he was massively over rated altho I think Waddle was under rated as time has passed.

He was a very solid LB and had a decent cross and was good at set pieces. He was very good for England in 1990 as was Paul Parker.

agree with that, waddle was a fantastically talented player. waddle, barnes, gascoigne, beardsley and lineker (spit) would all still do a job in the premier league nowadays. pearce would look like a shoutier paul konchesky.

The book it's based on, All Played Out by Pete Davies, is one of my favourite books of all time.

It's easily the best book about football I've ever read but it's more than that. It's almost like an essay on the state of the nation. What type of country produces hooligans and outdated football tactics.
