Cooger Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) I am convinced we are going to win the league this season. Here are my reasons: - Suarez is the best attacking player in the league.- Carroll is a beast in the air and when we get Downing (imminent) he'll get the service he'll thrive on, not to mention at corners from Adam's delivery.- Gerrard is rested and ready to hit the ground running.- I don't see many defensive midfielders in the league better than Lucas.- I can't see another team scoring more than Gerrard, Suarez, Kuyt, Carroll, Downing (trust me), Adam etc will offer.- In Dalglish we have the perfect man to take the pressure off the team and deal with the press.- In Johnson we have the best right back in the league.- Reina is the best keeper in the league.- Since Clarke joined the club we kept numerous clean sheets and Carragher / Skrtel, along with the rest of the back four looked very solid.- With no Europe we should be fresh week in / week out.- Our depth in the squad is going to be far better next season. But most importantly our brand of football is right now under Dalglish. We won't be cautious, which has cost us under Houiller, Benitez and certainly Hodgson. Dalglish will get the side playing attacking football, with pass and move. This will see us beat the teams that come to Anfield and sit deep with ease and we know in the big games we are just as good as the other sides, as we showed last season. Jump on my positive wave - as I'm convinced we are going to win the league! Edited July 10, 2011 by Cooger
Earl Hafler Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Disagree with a couple of thoughts but i do agree about Europe - with squad rebuilding ongoing, the lack of European football will be a bonus. Senior players allowed to rest, youngsters given their chance in the League Cup. Still need a centre half, though.
DarthVader Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I'm not convinced convinced yet chief. I do agree that Suarez is special and along with Gerrard I think he's gonna be a regular match winner for us. I am worried though that he will not have a proper rest before the new season starts because of his involvement with the ongoing CA. His movement off the ball is amazing...did you see the chance he missed against Chile in the 1st half. On another day, he would have hit the roof of the net. If Adam can gel with Gerrard and Suarez, we probably have another match winner on our hands. I'm 75% sure we'll add Downing to our team and we will finally have a genuine winger in our side since Riera's exit. If Kuyt can give us another good season and Suarez is not too banged up, offensively we look good. I am still very unconvinced though that Andy Carroll is the man for us going forward and I'm also unconvinced about his fitness. I hope he proves me wrong. I would like to add that I prefer Johnson as LB and Kelly as RB. I am not convinced about the names we have been linked with in the LB position, ie Enrique, Sisoko. Let's just stick to what we have defensively and add Downing and perhaps another out and out striker. With uncertainty over Arsenal, we have a chance to seriously compete for the 3rd and 4th place but I'm sure like every one of you on these boards, I want more. Minimum for me would be CL qualification and 1 trophy at the end of the season. On 10/07/2011 at 13:48, Cooger said: I am convinced we are going to win the league this season. Cooger Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 Nah sod all that, it is a marathon not a sprint chat. In the 80s we knew we'd win the league, as we knew we had the best team. Man U believe they'll win the league. I tell you what Dalglish will believe it as well. One game at a time and all that, but I am convinced we will win it. Everything is just coming together nicely and our rivals really aren't that great - compared to some of the teams we have been competing with the last decade. Our fans need to get right behind the team and believe we will win the league. He got that ban last season from November and then didn't play for us till February. He only played around 35 games last season didn't he? He'll be as fresh as a daisey.
RafaShanks Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Whoa, hold on there. Firstly yes, Suarez may be the best attacking player, but we don't know how much the Copa America will take out of him. Also Carroll's niggly injuries are a huge concern. If he is injured, who fills in for him? Suarez, which adds more pressure on his shoulders. This is where Wickham would have been perfect. Lack of Europa s**** will be a huge bonus. None of this playing Thursday then Sunday at 3pm, where the atmosphere was dead. I think we'll definitely finish in the top four next season, but just a little bit off from being able to win it. I would of course love to be wrong about this. If we do sign Downing, think we need another winger, unless Kenny plans to unleash Rahim into the first team. Also we still don't know if Kenny plans to put Henderson on the right. We still don't have any serious pace in the team. This is why I would love us to sign N'Zogbia. He ticks all the boxes for me. Not sure we need another full back with Flanegan and Robinson. Would hate to restrict the development of these two lads, who could play for us for the next decade. I'd rather us spend big and buy a class CB. One thing is for sure, it's feckin nice going into a new season in a positive frame of mind unlike the last couple summers, when it's been negative as feck.
Cooger Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 Why do we need another winger than Downing? Suarez drifts wide and beats full backs all the time. We'll probably play some version of 4-3-3 next season given we have loads of centre midfielders, therefore in Kuyt, Suarez, Downing and Maxi we have four wide players and that's without mentioning Cole, who might be hard to shift and ends up staying. Also given we won't play as many games next season why will we need another centre back? We have Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Soto and even Kelly - who might be used in that position more given the emergence of Flanagan, who could play back up to Johnson. With less games that should be fine and the defense looked fine once Clarke took over - Skrtel for example really picked up his form. Carroll in the team has also helped us defend set plays as well. I'd rather just get a top left back - Baines ideally. I think Suarez will be fresh after Copa America, he didn't play much football last season. It will hit Lucas worse. Red Kent Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 If the Mancs get Sneijder then there is no need to look anywhere else for the winners

John am Rhein Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 we'll defintely win the league. The only question is by how many points. On 10/07/2011 at 14:35, Bing Bong Man said: If the Mancs get Sneijder then there is no need to look anywhere else for the winners ok. See you in 2012

Falconhoof Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 we'll challenge for the league, of course we will. When has Kenny ever got himself involved in not reaching for the top of the pile?

smithdown Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I'll be stunned if we don't win it. Just feels like we will.

Last season, Dalglish sounded like he did back in the glory days. Not the merest hint that he was out of touch with the game. His manner with the press is priceless. That, the youngsters, Clarke, Suarez & Carroll for a full season ( *holds c**k for " wood " whilst he types this* ) and new quality signings and we should be challenging in nine months time
Farmer's Tan Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 top 4 maximum, no way we come close to winning the league. We have to dislodge 1 or either man city arsenal chelsea or man u, out of that lot, only arsenal look like they may falter but probably won't chelsea may have a rough time if Villa Boas turns out to be poor, spurs are a better team than us too. Top 4 and that would be a brilliant season coming from where we are.

We got more points than ay other team in that team, other than Chelsea and that was despite all the injuries we had with Gerrard hardly playing, then Carragher, Johnson, Kelly, Agger, Meireles, Aurelio, Carroll all picking up knocks.
