Weird all this

Don't understand why he wants to be so far from his family all the time

wouldn't you if someone offered you big money to play with Muang's thong?

I think Robbie is alright for cash

Its not a bad place to be to playing football at his age. They were in Oz with him for a while but the wife got fed up of living in Townsville or wherever didn't she? Not surprised, there is nothing there.

When he lived in Crosby he was always in the Liver to get away from the house

I think he's just right to do it, living in different cultures while getting paid well for it. Pleanty of time to settle back here when he is finished and the kids are grown up a bit.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler will play for Thailand's Muang Thong United next season, the club have revealed.

Fowler, who quit Australia's A-League after two seasons with the now-defunct North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory, is due to arrive in Thailand on Friday and undergo a medical.

"He agreed to play with Muang Thong United as a forward," team manager Ronnarit Suewaja told AFP on Thursday. "I'm confident that Thai football will improve as a famous player like him agreed to join us. The contract has already been signed. We just need to work out a few details.''

The 36-year-old striker, who scored 183 goals during eight years at Liverpool, will join Portuguese coach Henrique Calisto at the club after he resigned from the Vietnam national team.

Fowler will be by far the highest profile player in the Thai Premier League, and joins former Fulham and QPR defender Zesh Rehman.

Didn't he leave Perth after telling them that he wanted to move back to England?

Suprised he doesn't want to see more of them growing up, but whatever

I'm sure being away from his family was one of the reasons he left Aus though

TBH he was a let down in oz, as you'd expect he's nowhere near the player he once was, and that's being generous.

Top lad though and a legend so I will stop being disrespectful.

scuttlebutt here seems to be that robbie will be paid 1million baht a month, which is about 20k GBP per month.

How much would he have earned at a Championship or League 1 club? About the same or lesser? Don't think he's there for the money anyways, he has plenty of that. Does the 1m include image rights? Im sure he is earning from the number of shirts they sell cuz of him..

think championship wages would be more than 5k a week but that assumes he could still play at that league's pace. i'm not sure he could. thai league will be like a testimonial every week for him, but the heat and humidity will take their toll.
