I think this tournament is a really interesting idea and I can see it really growing in stature.

In some respects it provides an alternative for the big teams to the requirement to have B teams (as in Spain) or for us to rush to loan players out. I presume the age criteria will see players up to the age of 20/21 playing it (depending on when birthdays fall), and that could see the competition featuring a good mix of unknowns and those that already have a pedigree. I can imagine that if Barca's kids came to Anfield later in the competition that there would be a pretty healthy crowd out for that one.

Anybody planning a trip to Molde 31. august? I'm considering going, but Molde is not exactly an easily accessible town even when you live in Norway (not on a budget, anyway).

I read somwhere that we we've opted out of the reserve league to play in this tournament; anyone clarify if this is true or not?

That team should give anybody a run for their money.

Oh, and are you trying to replace NYR as THE formation specialist? ;)

Haven't heard that, I know City did though.

Can't see this happening to be honest. We have a load of players to chose from.

What I thought but thought it was worth checking here if anyone definitely knew any different.

Sounded like lazy journalism with the article mainly about City and just lumping us and Spurs in with them; they also missed out on the fact that Villa are involved.

Manchester City's youngsters will face Barcelona, Celtic and Marseille in the group stage of a star studded mini Champions League next season.

The Nextgen Series, made up of predominantly Under-19 and Under-20 players, starts in August and involves fellow English sides Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The trio have opted out of the Barclays Premier Reserve League and will instead take on the best from around Europe.
