abc Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Watching LFCTV online and there was a clip of his 5 best goals. That glancing header into the far post from just inside the box against Anderlecht at Anfield in 05/06...simply majestic. One of my all time favourites LFC goals that, wasn't even on the list of five. Scored a similar one against Fulham too in his last season for us. There was also the right foot volley against Chelsea in the FA cup semi which Cudicini had the cheek to say was a fluke afterwards. Loved his strikers' instinct as well, always first on the scene when the keeper couldn't hold onto a shot. Him and Benayoun shared a similar nose for goal, something that Dirk showed a bit of this season (especially for that hattrick). I know some on here disliked him as a player but I always have a soft spot for ball players who are capable of the sublime.
Knox_Harrington Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 His lob against The Ev when we smashed them with ten and he was playing in three different positions at once and they didn't have a clue.
Benzo-13 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 His expressions when we scored was pure joy.He lit up the place after a few boring years.Pity he wasn't available in Athens.
abc Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) His lob against The Ev when we smashed them with ten and he was playing in three different positions at once and they didn't have a clue. One should not downplay the schooling given to the Everton midfield by Mr.X after our captain had recklessly got himself sent off... (that lob made the list of 5 BTW) Edited June 22, 2011 by abc
JonShar Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 His lob against The Ev when we smashed them with ten and he was playing in three different positions at once and they didn't have a clue. That was the one for me, right at the start of the 2nd half if I remember rightly. Gorgeous goal.
Superjay Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I loved his goal against everton where morientes smashed the ball off the bar. Everyone stood still on the pitch except him. A little genius.
honourablegeorge Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Loved him. He had that something special that only the very best players have. Not a lot of it, but a bit of it.
growler Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 For him here and what he did he will always be remembered positively. Loved him. Remember when he was clearly injured but carried on running as we had used our 3 subs.
Buzz Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12hulV91a8I&feature=fvwrelIs the letter from him at the bottom of this for real? Edited June 22, 2011 by Buzz
TheLa Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) Best player ever... Not really, like but he was f***ing wonderful. Edited June 22, 2011 by TheLa
stressederic Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Cracking bit of commentary as well. The whole thing sticks in my mind. Probably one of my favourite goals of all time.
Flight Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Love him to bits. Asked before but no-ones ever been able to find his letter to the fans when he left. It was ace. And he ended Roy Keanes career ! Edited June 23, 2011 by Flight
carrafan Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Love him to bits. Asked before but no-ones ever been able to find his letter to the fans when he left. It was ace. And he ended Roy Keanes career ! This?
BDB Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 a little feckin Genius is right! and the song, the song was top notch!
Zoob Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Funny to see that he 'only' scored 18 goals for us. Also surprised he didn't do better when he returned to Spain. So many important ones though, and lots of great ones. I loved him. Was a pity he never played in the same Liverpool team as Torres....
lfc4eva99 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 His goal against Charlton was sheer class as well.. How we've missed a creative spark like him!
