Gunga Din Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 the Czech Republic are a great price for this. Iceland have a very decent side as well, a lot of their players are in mid season too which will help them. they qualified at the expense of the Germans, and have an easier group to qualify from, whereas the other group has England, Spain and the Czechs in it
madaboutlfc Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) looking at the talent out there England could have done with Carroll and Wilshere.. when you look at Spain they are just insane Edited June 10, 2011 by madaboutlfc
Woodsyla Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 looking at the talent out there England could have done with Carroll and Wilshere.. when you look at Spain they are just insaneWas just thinking that, it's a very strong side but with Carroll and Wilshere they would have had a really good chance.
Kahnee Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Is that Mikel San Jose the one who used to play for us? I've just Wki'd. It is

I imagine there hasn't been quite the same furore in Spain over the picking of a couple of World Cup winners and full internationals for a 'meaningless' tournament like there was over here for the picking of Wiltshire and Carroll?
Hassony Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Is that Mikel San Jose the one who used to play for us? I've just Wki'd. It is he is a good player, two good seasons in the first team for bilbao now how much did we sell him for? £2.5m?
épieur Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 NO ROOM FOR cANALES> Screw that, I am not changing it to lower case. And that is a question mark at the end, btw.
schmuckdonald Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 That Spanish squad is pretty bloody stellar. Should be a good championship, have heard really good things about the Icelandic U-21 side. San Jose has done a good job in a league more suited to him.
Hassony Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 must be a good squad if Pacheco, ayala and suso can't get in the team
schmuckdonald Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Really excited to see how Wickham (running on the assumption he does eventual come to us) and Henderson get on. Feasibly we could have made up nearly half of the squad, if Robinson had been called up to replace Gibbs, Kelly had been fit and Carroll had been selected.
Logic Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 The Icelandic team could be a surprise in this tournament but I'm afraid they'll suffer from "Icelanditis"... or the guaranteed collapse when the Icelandic nation starts believing in them.
Damian_de Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Called that one correct, Logic! Should've won that by 60 minutes as well
Logic Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Called that one correct, Logic! Should've won that by 60 minutes as wellYup, should have finished the two very good chances Kolbeinn got and it'd be game over. Instead one of theirs gets to walk into the penalty area and one of the more experienced players hacks him down to get a red card. Two things that stood out: 1. Rúrik (nr. 9) has quite a bit of skill on the ball but his decision making is so terrible that he'll never make it at a "biggish" club. Two stupid decisions stand out; 1. Gets past the fullback on the edge of the penalty area with two-three Icelanders in the box and he decides to try to take the fullback on again instead of getting the cross in and 2. Trying nice little things under pressure in the defensive 3rd of the field for Iceland. Hate when players do that... 2. Eggert (nr. 4) let his men past him all match. Not good enough. There are only two players in this Icelandic team that will make it at a decent level IMO. Gylfi Þór (nr. 10) and Kolli (nr. 19). The rest is lower league and/or smaller European league level. The saddest thing though is that the U-21's are probably still better than our "A-team"...
Logic Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Is Palsson playing for them? No, he didn't make the squad. Not sure if that was the right call or not though.
schmuckdonald Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 No, he didn't make the squad. Not sure if that was the right call or not though. Don't we have another Icelandic lad? Emilsson?
Leo No.8 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Taken on new significance this tournament now with us buying Henderson and being after Wickham. Bit worried what an outstanding tournament could do for the price and interest in the latter though - would rather we had him tied up by now. Think he'll do really well and we may end up competing with United again.

Bit worried what an outstanding tournament could do for the price and interest in the latter though - would rather we had him tied up by now. Think he'll do really well and we may end up competing with United again. No chance of that. They already have a good stock of strikers. He wouldn't get a game there.
Logic Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Don't we have another Icelandic lad? Emilsson?Yup. He's still only 18 IIRC so still too young for the U-21's based on the competition for places there right now.
schmuckdonald Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 No chance of that. They already have a good stock of strikers. He wouldn't get a game there. Don't know how true that is, can see Welbeck leaving/going out on loan, Berbatov leaving, Bebe is leaving, Obertan too. Aside from that you have Owen, Hernandez, Rooney and Macheda (who is a sack of spuds).

Aside from that you have Owen, Hernandez, Rooney and Macheda (who is a sack of spuds). This is it - Berbatov goes I think they need another one. Owen is always injured and crap now, Macheda isn't going to make it IMO which leaves them with Rooney and Hernandez, and the former players deeper or wide sometimes. I think Wickham is the one I'd like us not to f*ck about with and get signed up - think people who haven't watched a bit of him will see why shortly. Edited June 12, 2011 by Leo No.8
Stevie H Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 No chance of that. They already have a good stock of strikers. He wouldn't get a game there.or they sign him and loan him back out. i reckon united have got a lot of money to play with this summer.
Cunny Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 How the feck are spain odds against (11/10 with Stan James) to beat England tonight? This should be Johnny Foreigner giving John Bull another footballing lesson shouldn't it?
