Red Yoda Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 we have had a number of seasons where our club has slipped from the standards that we all want to see . we now have kenny in charge , backed up by a quality backroom staff , helped in the transfer market by comolli and incredibly importantly , backed up by owners who genuinely want the club back to the top . they are willing to go after the very best young crop of british talent that is out there to improve our squad now and for the future . they realise that they need a good amount of british talent because of the rules that have been brought in recently , they also realise that they are going to be more expensive , but they are willing to go the extra mile to get us where we need to be . i really cant understand why somany posters want to complain about having owners who say , '' yes ok we realise this player is going to be a bit more expensive , but it will be in our best interest , in the long term , so ok guys go for it .'' for years our owners have short changed us , now that we are being backed by our owners , some people are still complaining ............... why ?
Bailo Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I'm not upset, but I guess in a sense I'm worried about the amount of money we're spending compared to how close to going bust we were. It's illogical I know, but I hope FSG know what they're doing.

It's illogical I know, but I hope FSG know what they're doing. I'm the same as you. Thought Comolli came in to find good talent and a good price, like Suarez £20m for Henderson and £35m for Carroll worries me. It's good that the club is spending money though.
Epic Swindle Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Welcome to the topsy turvy world of the football fan.
Gilps Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 We've had 3-4 years of questioning and worrying about everything. The causes of that might be over, but some people have just got into a habit that's hard to shake.
Rimbeux Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Nothing wrong with a bit of debate, it's healthy. There will be extremes, but I dont see a big problem

It's good that the club is spending money though.Yeah, there's an element of that as well. Comolli and "moneyball" made me expect a transfer policy that we're seemingly at the opposite end of. I never in a million years expected £35m and £20m signings within 6 months of being taken over.

Swan Red Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 it's because they weren't breast-fed. post of the thread
David Hodgson Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 post of the thread Somebody post a picture of some breasts to celebrate ! It's what they'd do on TLW.
Hieronymus Bosch Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Haven't seen anyone complain about the owners. But transfer targets will always provoke debate, especially given that no manager has a flawless record when it comes to buying players.

Swipe Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 It's great that we appear to have money, but I don't think it's too unreasonable for some to question some of the likely signings, if they aren't convinced by certain players. Still some over the top moaning in some quarters though.

Whilst we are still being linked with the players, its natural to debate whether they would be who you would go forThen if they sign you think 'Well, lets see what he can do then'.

Pretty much where I'm at too. Also think it's sensible to wait til we've done all our business to properly evaluate it.
goodrobotusses Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I'm mostly upset that this thread isn't called "Why are some posters dissing the owners, Comolli and Kenny?".
Conrad Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) sensible to wait til we've done all our business to properly evaluate it. That works both ways though - i.e. you could argue no point getting too excited by one signing or too down based on one signing. Also only really applies to relatively 'unknown quantity' type signings? If we signed Messi tomorrow, I would have no hesitation concluding we had done good business this summer regardless of who else we brought in Edited June 7, 2011 by Heighway 61 Revisited

Swan Red Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Pretty much where I'm at too. Also think it's sensible to wait til we've done all our business to properly evaluate it. Possibly the most important and most overlooked point in the whole discussion

If we signed Messi tomorrow, I would have no hesitation concluding we had done good business this summer regardless of who else we brought in That's an extreme though. That's cos he's the player on earth by many many miles. People are just excited by the idea we finally have money and are being aggressive (it seems).
Leo No.8 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Said a while back that I think Kenny is our answer to Ferguson, and in that sense people shouldn't be too surprised he's going about his business in a similar way. Looking to build a squad based on a core of British talent with a touch of international flair. How we've all had a good laugh at Ferguson's transfers so many times over the years eh, signing Ferdinand for £30m, Carrick for £18m etc. Over-rated, over-priced - and here we are having been overtaken by them. The simple truth is aside a few good years from Wenger and Mourinho's teams, English football has been primarily dominated by clubs with a core of homegrown talent for 40 years - first us and then United. Yes the game has changed dramatically since our heyday, but the simple fact is it works. I'm all for us bringing in the best of the young British talent out there - you could say we're overpaying, but at the end of the day you can't really judge that until the player has spent time at the club. Kenny is going to look to build a team rather than a collection of footballers, and I wholeheartedly agree with the policy we're looking like pursuing, although I would like us to try to bring in a couple of really gifted players from abroad as well. Mata would be one, perhaps a midfield destroyer as well. I think its important to buy at the top end of the market from abroad - I think Rafa himself admitted in an interview recently that he just bought too many players, the vast majority from the continent and most for lower to middle value. I'd like to see a balanced approach where we bring in the best young British talent, along with some proper proven quality from Europe. We should be looking at the likes of Mata, Martinez and Hazard to mix in with the likes of Jones, Henderson and Wickham. So yes buy primarily UK based talent because it works, but then mix in one or two from the top end from Europe each year. Edited June 7, 2011 by Leo No.8
épieur Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) I think what's notable from all this is that there are no punts here. We're signing players that will almost certainly play an important part for the team for many years to come. And if they aren't smash hits straight away they will be moulded into that in due time. This is the end of the revolving door transfer policy. Edited June 7, 2011 by epieur
