This is from the transfer thread - people saying Carroll doesn't have the talent of Torres, where it's not really the point, because they have different strengths....

People dissing him for his performance last year for us...when he was clearly half fit and the team was in transition and not really yet tactically playing to his strengths...

Here's a few small truths

1. 35 million was not his fault....it was a deal that was made at the time given the events with Torres. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't thing, if we hadn't bought him we would have become a selling club, because we bought him, we were knee jerk, some people are never happy. Despite the price, he is a long term project

2. As we saw against Man City, he is great in the air and has a great left foot, he hasn't got the service yet..i don't mean hoofing to him like Carra does, i mean crossing from the wings.

3. Carroll might just fit the system better than Torres, Carroll and Suarez give us more options tactically than Suarez and Torres, we can set up in different ways

4. He's only 22, the past season was his first in prem, it was a great first season.

5. People wanted Llorente, who is nailed on for Real (i think), Carroll has the same raw attributes, only much more green, Llorente is 4 years older, Carroll was prem proven (kind of), Llorente is not. If Llorente was English, people would have looked to another non-English player, the bias on this forum baffles me.

6. From his interviews seems like a humble lad who has not fully grasped what a big deal his move is, Kenny is possibly working on making him believe in that he is as good as he is, it's a mental thing (as we saw when he played), he is still very tentative

I think Carroll has the potential to be long term great, he doesn't have the immediate, 'f-you look at my great talent' like Rooney (young English player, similar price tag), but he does give a manager a great canvas to work with.

thank you for turning this thread into a joke with the first reply to the OP, good work man...

 Soz.

Don't think anyone is really dissin him are they? I know one called him the next Mark Hately but you'll never please everyone.

Can we knock this s*** on the head? It's getting bloody tedious.

Carroll can be as good as Aldo was. Suarez is probably better than Beardsley, we'll need a Barnes and a few others but we'll be going for the league beginning in August. its only about 60 more sleeps...

baja, lad.

Nobody on here who knows anything about football at all is dissing Andy Carroll. The VAST majority of fans are delighted we have him, realise he's been setbackj by injuries, realise he's been setback by moving to a new city, by adjusting to new team mates, by, perhaps the pressure of trying too hard. Intelligent people know all of this, and can't wait to see the lad in full flight for Liverpool Football Club.

That's about all there is to say on it really.

goals per game he can have the same impact as Aldo, thats all I mean. Not in the same mould obviously.

Ah fair enough. With the right service he should be our top scorer for the season*. Not sure if it will be Suarez or Gerrard (depending where Kenny plays him) for second top scorer.

....* Unless we get the biggest shock of all time with the return of Torres

Too many here have never appreciated the value of big men.

we've flourished without one for so long its remarkable that you hold a candle for the big man. :) Its almost perverse in a history littered with Rushes and Kenny's and Beardsleys and Aldo's and Barnesies and surely you were too young for Keegan Toshack ?
