Nebraska Red Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 number 14 was the best for me, just beats number 18
MFletcher Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Saw the two against Pana live in the Camp Nou. Absolutely unreal.
Earl Hafler Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) #26 is a right goal #28 is like a freekick on Sensible Soccer Those reverse finishes he does are obscene Edited May 29, 2011 by Earl Hafler
meepins Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 Messi the greatest?I don't put as much value in the World Cup as these football writers so whether he wins it with Argentina or not, I'd regard him as the greatest if he keeps playing like this.
Benzo-13 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 The little header against Mallorca is genius.Real solo goal wins out.
Coyler Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Who was the (aging nostalgic) prick recently who said that no matter what he did he'd never be as good as Pelé?
Maldini Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I really hate that argument that he can't be judged as great he's done it at the World Cup. The Champions League is a much higher level and he's done it brilliantly there for the last 6 years. It's a cop out from lazy journalists and old pros who don't want to declare an opinion yet.
Coyler Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 The Arsenal goal is probably the best I've ever seen, with the two flicks. That free kick is great as well where it hits the top corner and the keeper just goes: "f*** this s***, for f***'s sake, what the f***?" with his arm. I really hate that argument that he can't be judged as great he's done it at the World Cup.Yeah I sort of like using that argument about Best though...
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 He's easily in the top 5 all-time already. he's a joy to watch, the commentators said in the final that #53 drew him level with Ronaldo (the plastic one), they couldn't be more different as players. Hopefully Kenny'll throw in a bid for him in the summer

Hopefully Kenny'll throw in a bid for him in the summer could you imagine Messi v Stoke on a wet and windy January afternoon? hard to think of anyone who had a better all round game in years gone by. Messi has it all, he can finish with both feet, he's decent in the air, his passing is great, his ball control is out of this world at times. That little move before their 3rd goal yesterday was sublime. The only thing he doesn't do is tackle, but when you have Busquets, Iniesta, Xavi and Mascherano he doesn't have to tackle, he can just wait for the ball. Pele and Cruyff come closest for me, but I don't think either of them were scoring 53 goals in a season.
Maldini Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Yeah I sort of like using that argument about Best though... Good point, I take it all back
Maldini Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 A weird statistic for you. Leo Messi scored 12 goals more this season than the entire Napoli team did to win Serie A in 1987.

Leo No.8 Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) He's on course so far to be considered the greatest ever and I think by the time he's finished he will be. Not just because of his ability, or what he's achieved so far. But he's also durable, professional and humble. I don't think he'll be hampered by serious injuries, it won't go to his head and he'll look after himself off the pitch. Remember Ronaldo when he was a young lad at Barca - he looked like he could be considered up there with Pele etc. but he didn't live right and injuries ruined him. I don't think there's anything that can stop Messi being the best ever; one of the things I love about that Barca team is despite how good they are there's no massive egos. He really is an absolute joy to watch, player of a generation in the team of a generation. Ronaldo is pretty amazing as well, in most eras he is the best in the world with the goals he's scoring for Real but he's nothing on Messi. I don't think I've ever seen a player who can twist and turn with feet as fast as his, its actually impossible to stop him. Edited May 30, 2011 by Leo No.8
Cunny Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I think CL football (especially the latter stages) is a higher level to international football now.He does not need to win a world cup to become the greatest player ever.
Gethin Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 And hes only 23/24? Its unreal 24 at the end of June (yeah I just looked it up) That compilation is just incredible. Only 4 or 5 pens and only 3 or 4 easy tap ins - most of the rest leave you going "How the feck did he do that". Insane.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 26 & 52 and as Coyler said, love the reaction of the keeper to one of free-kicks
Antynwa Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 He's the greatest player i've ever seen. It' just a joy to switch the tele on and watch him play. Sign him up Kenny, sign him the f*** up.

I agree for the most part with your point about the Champions League, but why should people have to declare an opinion yet? I just intend on enjoying watching him for another 8 or 10 years and then I'll start to think about where he ranks on the all-time list. He's indisputably the best around today by miles, which right here and now is all that matters
