Final year of Uni next year so want to get started with my final project. So after a bit of advise really. I intend to create a rent payment management system for an office building.

 

Using barcodes or QR Readers the user will be able to scan their card or device and be able to add funds to an account which can then be deducted from the final rent. I also want to be able to have the ability to be able to lock individual offices if rent isn't able to be paid.

 

I intend to use vb.net and for a majority of it to be based on the web. First off does anyone have any advice for QR Readers and barcodes. How do barcodes work? I mean if I was to create a barcode, store the information I want on it, and then scan it, will it just display whatever is on the card? I want to be able to use an external device or object to log into a system.
