Andy @ Allerton Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 .. Manchester United have caught us up and overtaken us (Anyone pretending we've 'won' 20 titles is talking out of their hoop). Congratulations to them. It's been inevitable for a fair few years and that monkey has finally been removed. I don't think we'll win the league next year, nor the year after. If we began challenging after that period then I'd be happy. Rome wasn't built in a day and there have been many reasons why we haven't won a pot of our own. We came very close twice but it wasn't to be. 20 years+ is a long time, but if you fail to win a title in that time then this opens the door for others to catch up. Manchester United might feel like the 'enemy' but really they never were. They are just a very good rival club that have matched then exceeded us over recent years and indeed decades. The real 'enemy' were Gillette and Hicks - we failed to win it before these people arrived at the club - but we always were a football club then - one not reaching the potential that we should at times, but nethertheless still a football club. Then they arrived and not only did the wheels come off - the wheels were removed and farmed out to an offshore account along with the brakes, the steering wheel and parts regularly left the country. Normally, I should expect, I should be gnashing at the teeth and crying and moaning about 'Those horrible Mancs' but I don't feel like that personally. I'm just so relieved that we didn't go into administration, that we didn't go bust, that there is still a club here to follow and support, that our fans on the whole seem to have nearly got back to thinking of the club in the right way (Well most of them) and that we didn't get relegated. Because going out of business, relegation and administration were very real possibilities. Manchester United isn't any kind of shock or wake up call (I quite rightly predicted over four months ago that they had won it at a canter, so it's hardly a 'shock'). But (And I know it's funny coming from me) it's time to look at our own club and our own manager and our own players. I'd rather get behind them than moan and gripe and whine (Apart from the sideshow squarely aimed at the gimps on Red Cafe). I'm really happy with the club. We're in a great place - all we can do to affect a title challenge is to do our best - we beat Chelsea home and away and we beat Manchester United on our patch. This didn't lead to the Mancs winning the title - it's down to Chelsea and the other 'challengers' being inconsistant and poor throughout the season. Manchester United haven't been much better with just 5 away wins all season - but they've been the best of a bad bunch. Congratulations to them. They have some real fans in work - one of which I'll congratulate and they have some utter tosspots that don't go yet crow like they've been going all their lives. Happy for them, they get a chance to show what blerts they are. But it's all about us. The future is always moving. We just need to spend a few years setting ourselves up properly so that the future doesn't run away. I actually think from probably relegation candidates and a club clearly going into administration, what we've accomplished this season has been nothing short of brilliant. I would have taken 15th to get rid of those b******s. And yet here we are towards the top of the table. Great work from the manager, the players, the owners, the fans and everyone attached to the club. It's nice that we've got a goal to go for. We are behind in the 'all time' league table. Let's just work hard, do the right things and see if we can change that one day. Still made up. Never though I'd ever say that the day after the Mancs won their 19th title YNWA
Cobs Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Bolllocks to them, their schithouse manager, schitbag fans and the referees who helped them on their way.
Eskimo Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Bolllocks to them, their schithouse manager, schitbag fans and the referees who helped them on their way. is right... I hear the c**** even broke out a chorus of murderers yesterday when Torres came on, is this right?
Leo No.8 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) I kind of feel like with Kenny back and our new owners and board looking like they are going to do really good things with the club off the field, and the surely imminent retirement of Ferguson that our time may be coming. Maybe thats just me being overly optimistic, but it feels like we've been to the depths of hell with Hicks, Gillett, Purslow and Hodgson and that we're going to rise out of it much higher than we've been in many years. I don't think it matters who United recruit to replace Ferguson they will never win titles the way they have under him again. The effect he has on his players and the power he has over the FA and officials will not be replicated. We need to have a top squad of players and be in our new / redeveloped stadium ready for when he f*cks off. Edited May 9, 2011 by Leo No.8

We will be ahead of them in league titles soon enough. I'd rather support LFC than bemoan any BS decisions given to United or any quotes attributed to them.

Leo No.8 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) Have you seen him interviewed in HD Cobs? If he was any more purple he'd just be a big swinging bell end, the alcohol has to catch up with him soon. Perhaps he'll cark it before he retires, either way would be great but it has to be in the next few years. Edited May 9, 2011 by Leo No.8

Jon Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I'd rather we win it with him still there, then overtake them and cause his not too early demise
gulaman Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 It's sad to lose that record. It doesn't happen often in Europe. Juve, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich... it will be years (decades in the case of Bayern) before their respective records are broken. We've lost ours already. But it hurts less now because I had accepted years ago that the mancs would eventually get 19. Sadly, it had been coming for a while. A pity we've lost it to such a loathsome club.

KentyRed Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 "The real 'enemy' were Gillette and Hicks - we failed to win it before these people arrived at the club - but we always were a football club then" I do agree with this to a pont Andy but then when you hear stories like Ruddocks who were passing coins around the pitch to see who was gonna buy the next round, i think theres alot of factors to blame for us not being successful before they arrived. The G&H episode was a culmination of it all and hopefully we move forward from it.

The G&H episode was a culmination of it all and hopefully we move forward from it. We had cockups and missed opportunities I agree. However Gillette and Hicks made our club going out of business and into Administration (And possibly beyond) a very real possibility. They actively asset-stripped, lied and shafted us. I'm not sure you can compare that to previous lack of funds and mistakes made. I don't think previous to them there was an active will to rip us off and destroy us as an entity.
Ed the Wool Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Kenny will win it next year. You heard it here first. Parry and Moores failed us on just about every level. We'd been rotting for years before Hicks and Gilett came in to finish us off.

We'd been rotting for years before Hicks and Gilett came in to finish us off. On reflection, in some ways Moores and Parry were actually much worse than Hicks and Gillett. Hicks and Gillett are, always were and always will be LBO merchants, liars and inscrupulous, devious businessmen. They are what they are. If someone was standing looking into the Bear enclosure at the zoo and someone else came and pushed them in, you wouldn't blame the bears for the death of that person. Firstly Moores and Parry, through a mixture of self interest and gross incompetence failed to allow us to take our rightful place in the game when the Premier League began and the money poured in. They left us trailing, then at the end threw us to the wolves in a final damning act of what was again either gross incompetence or self interest. They did everything but destroy Liverpool Football Club, our supposed real 'custodians' and apparent fans of the club. I despise them for that, neither man would ever show their faces at the club again if they had any shame.

owenthomas Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 It's all about us from here-on in.yup! absolutely.. i've noticed i'm agreeing with you quite a bit these days...... i used to be one of those always hoping for them to get beat - as happy with their defeat as i was with us winning.. that's wrong.. i know that now.. since the Yanks were ousted my focus shifted entirely to just wanting to see us get back on an even keel - to see us getting back to the business of winning trophies.. i don't give a s*** what the Mancs win.. what Chelsea win.. what Arsenal get close to winning.. now, as long as we're ok that's all that matters..

That's how I feel. We have to think this way, and its not delusional. The alternative is getting obsessed by them and becoming 'bitter'. Also, we have so much to look forward too, what's to cry about ? This thread is actually about us. Yeah, I suppose it is And, I just was hoping we could totally ignore them in this week in particular. No doubt they'll be gleefully trawling our forums hoping to see us crying or being deluded.
