Chance meeting earlier today. I was told Alonso wants to come back, whether he does or not is down to us. And the second one is that a £50m player has been telling some of his closest ex-teammates about the biggest mistake hes made in his life.

Is there anything to contemplate here? Any reason to believe this person you met?

Alonso I would have back in a heartbeat. Not sure why he'd want to come though. Don't know how it would work for Torres coming back. To be noted: I don't hate for making a that stupid mistake. He wanted to go and we got good money. Fair enough.

I don't believe Alonso wants to come back.

I'd like no other player in the world to sign for us more, though.

Torres can f*** off.

This thread has the potential to go mental.

I'd take Alonso back without hesitation. When Mourinho went there I indulged in wishful thinking to the effect that he always went for athletes/engines in centre mid as opposed to playmakers as such (Essien, Mikel, Lampard) and so Xabi might get forced out. Hasn't he picked him all the time and he's been brilliant though? Which demolishes my theory.

Still, is an enticing prospect if there is anything in it. With Masch never playing at Barca, we could just be a Sissoko away from resurrecting the 'Best midfield in the world' song :-)

Or maybe not.

The 50m player sadly made his bed and will now have to lie in it - until he's kicked out of it. He's also done his burst to burn his bridges with some of his recent utterances. They wouldn't sell to us as the los of face would be huge and I don't think we would have him anyway.

They said that Alonso actually lodges at a current players house when he is over. I would love him back as well.

Love to have him back, a class player all round.

Would take Xabi back in a heartbeat. He's Mourinhos quarterback (like he was under Rafa here) though so can't see it.

Unless they win nowt and have another panicked overhaul.

Not interested in Torres at all.

Anyone who wouldn't have Alonso back in a second needs to go and start watching another sport.

Torres... don't know. If he backtracked and grovelled publicly, and if he worked his a*** off every time he set foot on the pitch, I still don't know.

Anyway, in the real world it won't happen. Can't see Real getting rid of Alonso for anything other than silly money. Can't see us paying £50m for Torres and I can't see Chelsea letting him go for much less even with the way he's been playing for them.

Alonso is the only ex player currently playing who is worthy of re-signing. It won't happen, he would cost 50million+ too.

He's 29, no club would pay £50M for him, with the exception of City perhaps.

I still see Alonso as a red, just playing in white. He's one of the heroes of Istanbul and will always be welcome at the club without even considering his quality on the pitch.

But sadly, I feel he's settled in madrid.

Xabi would solve all our midfield problems in one fell swoop. He can come back anytime he wants. We'll buy him a sword too if he likes.

Torres can come back too on the cheap and with a fair bit of grovelling for good measure, but the thing is... I don't think we'd really need him. I mean sure, he's better than Carroll. Or at any rate, he ought to be better than Carroll. But I think Carroll is a project worth persevering with. I don't really see the point signing another 9 to take his place at this point in time. Unlike Xabi, the gap has been filled already.

Check back next year Fernando. If Carroll has flopped, maybe there is an opening if Roman will let you out for peanuts.

And madrid surely? Unless they've had a brainfart and decided he can leave for a reasonable fee if he wants to.

Or we somehow engineered a buyback clause. we should have.

Torres would heavily depend on the price. I wouldn't blow our summer budget on him, but if we got him back for £20m, I'd take him. As much as his purgatory at chelsea is highly amusing, I really do think the claims he's shot (like Owen was) are premature.

Plus he'd have to absolutely throw his toys out the pram and go public with his desire to leave them, how it was a mistake, how we are the greatest team ever etc, etc.
