floyd the barber Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 which im sure hes probably reading! Fantastic night for him....he put in a solid display and lets not underestimate who he was up against, no they didnt have their greatest games..but still for someone so young with no experience, first start in crappy conditions....thought he was outstanding.....id like to see him get a little run in the side, which is likely considering the injuries. Our youth is looking the best since the redknapp, fowler, mcmanman crop came through
Big Red Machine Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Can pick a pass better than most of our first choice defenders.
carrafan Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 He did the simple things right and was well walked through it by Carra. Doesn't look as ready as what Kelly did but he'll improve.
Gethin Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Really pleased for the lad. He'll get the piss ripped out of him in training tomorrow for that little turn he did at the end though
Ibby Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Very composed and assured with the ball. Must be brilliant having a debut with carra playing as he coached and helped him throughout the game. Very promising keep it up and it gives a very good headache when Kelly and Johnson are back.
Dmitch Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 well played lad! Keep up the hard work! What a night!

Epic Swindle Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) Can pick a pass better than most of our first choice defenders. Yep. He'll soon be hoofing it like a good un Thought he was excellent tonight, not phased at all. Edited April 11, 2011 by Epic Swindle
smithdown Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Fella in the pub - 'is he a scouser this flanagan fella?' cue close up of the full back's grid Same fella 'oh right yeah, course he f*ckin is'
Gunga Din Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 very impressive debut. he likes a tackle too. wasnt over awed, didnt look out of place. great to see the kids getting games now and making the step up, rather than shift half a dozen experienced players out of position to plug a gap
Montse Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Loved it in the first half he dived in and did a clearance in our box - Carra gave him congratulatory slap on the head. He did really well, made up for the lad
stressederic Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Who was it he cleaned out in a tackle and won the ball? That was great. Shame he didn't kill them.
Billy Dane Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Had a great game and was good to see he had the confidence to tell others what to do, like telling Kuyt to get up the wing.
Ombudsam Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I thought he looked better than Robinson when I saw them against Southend but isn't Robinson rated higher? Anyway he did really well.
Conrad Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 very impressive - him and Kelly. A nice plus this season. And a word for Spearing. Very solid there tonight
Beardsley Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Very good debut. Kept it simple, and dared forward later in the game as his confidence grew. Looks like we might have a pair of excellent RB's on our hands.
Leo No.8 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Loved the way he wanted to keep the ball all the time, sometimes even when it was pretty tight. Composed, assured and put some crunching tackles in. 40 yard first time cross field pass in the first half was a bit good too. Made up for the lad.
Hodgson for Chelsea Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Fantastic, good on Kenny for bringing him in.
heighway Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 He gets a nice mention in The Guardian match report: "A collective effort earned its standing ovation from the Anfield majority but no one epitomised Liverpool's superior level of performance and desire better than the debutant John Flanagan. The 18-year-old had not made even a substitute's appearance before being drafted into a depleted defence at right-back yet settled superbly. Liverpool's initial reluctance to give Flanagan the ball proved unnecessarily protective. A sweeping cross-field pass to Fábio Aurélio would have soothed any nerves in the teenager and defensively he was faultless, crunching hard but fair into Gareth Barry and muscling aside Balotelli as the Italian tried to break through on goal"
Bootle Buck Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Great performance from the lad, he didn't look nervous at all and got stuck in nicely. Nice addition to the first team and I would like to see him get more chances this season.
New York Red Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 He was extremely impressive. I didn't see him put a foot wrong.
