So, he's finally made his move and looks like he's buying them for £731m

Apart from the obvious humour to be had in the inevitable apoplexy taking place somewhere in Texas, is this a good thing?

Is he a charlattan, of the like of Hicks/Gillett/Glaziers, a sensible owner, likely to spend where necessary to build the club, of the likes of ENIC and what we hope FSG turn out to be? Somewhere in the middle like Lerner (not really sure what he's up to)?

Or is the nightmare scenario of another sugar daddy billionaire we have to compete with?

I am guessing the latter is unlikely given the amount of time he's taken to make this move, and also he 'only' has £1.8bn, which is not enough to spend wrecklessly (not that arsenal necessarily need it) and of lot of it is tied up in other ventures anyway if wikipedia is anything to go on?

At the very least it should rule out any chance of Reina going there, He'd be mental to go to another club with uncertain/unknown ownership given what we've just been through.

I know absolutely nothing about him, but someone (either SiClancy or maybe Rushian) tweeted yesterday that they definitely won't be spending big on anyone now he's in charge and that could mean Pepe stays with us.

I read there is £150 million of debt left on the stadium, which means he's going to be in for just shy of £900m.

That makes what Fenway paid for us a snip even if they end up building a new ground.

I just don't get why we weren't being fought over come the endgame. Were Gillet & Hicks that much of an a*** to deal with? When you hear stories of Qatar buying the Mancs for £1.5bn, you realise how cheap we were.

There were supposedly 6 bidders weren't there? One of the failed ones claimed that Broughton / RBS was set on selling to FSG because of some friendship (can't remember who was meant to be friends with who)

Could be truth in it, could be bitter reflections on a failed bid, but you would expect that there should have been more serious interest. I think the problem most likely was G&H though, because they left it until the very bitter end, we were effectively worth the debt because everyone knew they would default. If they had sold a year or so beforehand, they would have got somewhere like £600-700m, there were enough interested parties supposedly dropping out because they were quote £1b+. I would guess we are already worth 2 or 3 times what FSG paid purely because we are a viable business again.

How would they know that?

he owns about 4 or 5 other pro sports teams in the states. Maybe people are going by the way he handles them.

Assume so. SiClancy does a lot of NFL analysis, so it might have been him.

He does own other teams in the states, quite a few I think someone (ie. not me) who follows US sports (I think SiClancy does) might be able to judge how those clubs have been run and extrapolate as to how arsenal will be run. Though, that might not be their reasoning and they might just be guessing.

Interestingly, he has the club will be paid for with cash and no debt leveraged on the club, he is worth £1.8bn according to wikipedia

They already owe £110m.

Seems like a guess to me. Not sure how anyone can be certain at this stage

Yep, even G&H spend big in their first summer to make an impression, even though it later turned out it was just more leveraged debt.

I think a lot of the bidders didn't want to get involved in the s***storm that they knew would follow.

We have to remember that the club was sold against the owners wishes.

You mean it wasn't a 'willing buyer, willing seller' transaction then?

You jest surely?

delaware registration means absolutely nothing.

True, I unregistered ages ago and I still get their sodding brochures shoved through the door.

It would certainly set my alarm bells ringing if I was an Arsenal fan. I don't know how its going to work.

If he's worth 'only' $1.8b and is spending somewhere in the region of $1b-1.3b on Arsenal I can't see how he can afford to buy them without leveraging it?

I also read he hasn't ruled out taking club profits as well, which would really worry me if it was us.

Not sure about the other sports, but in terms of the Rams, he's been part owner for years but has only just taken full control. The Rams were much better last season than they have been for a few years, although that was mainly down to the young kid they drafted at QB.
