Putting all the bitching between federations aside, how many non-English could expect to get into the British team for the Olympics base purely on merit?

I'd think that Bale would be a cert and they could possibly have Giggs in as a sentimental choice. But for the rest? It's a tough call. Bellamy? Adam? Hutton? It would be very different if this was 1986 when you'd have a ton of non-English players. But now? There's not much there.

Who do you think should essentially be drafted into an English squad?

On merit? If most of the first English team doesn't back out, not many but Bale would get in.

But i'm assuming that quite a few would. I can also see it be like the annual 'Everpool' team where 5 blues****s are chosen irrespective of the scenario.

Btw, isn't there an age restriction for national teams in the Olympics?

Isn't it under-23 but you're allowed 3 players over that age? Could be wrong. Age restrictions didn't stop Milner playing for the U-21's for about 10 years anyway.

Also, would imagine Ramsey, Fleck, Wilson and a couple of others to have a decent shout.
