Pitched up late to TalkSport this morning half pissed then belittled mental illness in a discussion with Rob Shepherd and Ronnie Irani then got hauled off air to be replaced by Danny Kelly - must be a shoe in for the Sky presenters job then

Heard that, he sounded well away.

Was quizzing that irani fella who seemed dead embarrassed 'I dunno, so if you just don't want to get up in the morning that's depression, just pull your socks up don't you, I'm not trying to belittle it but its rubbish isn't it? I dunno but...'

'Its more than that Al'

'Is it though? I don't understand it but if you just can't be bothered going to work...'

'That's not what it is Al'

'I dunno, if you just can't be bothered not pulling your finger out...'

Suddenly the travel and adverts came on mid drawl.

Thought 'tara Al, go back to bed lad'

Sadly it is. Cricket fan at work yesterday put Yardy's decision down to him being "soft in the head".

aye man...remember journalists writing some very informed stuff when Collymore went through his...apparently cause he was doing something most men would love to do and earning extortionate money for it meant he wasnt allowed to get depressed.

He gave it the big bevvied build up as well.

'Ok I'm going to get stick for this, ok I'm no expert, ok, I might be well out of order but...I've been sad now and then but then you think "I'll show em!!!" Don't you?'

His mate sounded gutted, knew what was coming.

Takes a special bloke to make Irani sound considered and sensitive. I heard a bit the other morning and Irani asked Brazil if he had ever had depression.

"Er, no" with utter disdain.

and because of it he should have been told to get help years ago by his employers

this is brilliant though

Truth is they market his 'lifestyle' unashamedly, he knows it, they know it.

true

all the other presenters joke about it and use it as a tool to promote the breakfast show!

That was contributed to mainly by that "straight talking" c*** John Gregory.

Gregory didnt help but the majority of the football "community" seemed to agree...especially fans with their "I earn £13,000 a year and Im not depressed" phone ins.

Also didn't help (and I'm not saying this makes it right, far from it) that Collymore himself isn't the most sympathetic of characters. A more widely liked and admired footballer might have provocated a slightly more sympathetic reaction.

was he that disliked at that time though?

Not sure about amongst the wider public to be honest. I do reckon that he got significantly less sympathy from Liverpool supporters than a lot of other ex players would have done.

Wouldn't that have been after he hit Ulrika? and got caught Dogging?

He was never that well liked before that anyway. Still no reason for a lack of sympathy for a terrible illness. I read his book and the way he describes how he felt during the time and it is clear (to me anyway) that he was suffering.
