New York Red Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I read recently that Sami was going to join the Leverkusen coaching staff. I hope that's not true. I Liverpool legend like him with so much intellectual brilliance in his position is exactly who should be brought back into the fold. I've thought that Didi has that potential too. Does anyone think there are potential Liverpool managers among our current or recently retired players?
carrafan Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 A thinking player doesn't necessarily make a good managerial/coach option.
_00_deathscar Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Does anyone think there are potential Liverpool managers among our current or recently retired players? No, but I can see Xabi Alonso becoming one in the future. I don't see Carragher becoming one, or at least not a very good one.
Murphman Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 No, but I can see Xabi Alonso becoming one in the future. I don't see Carragher becoming one, or at least not a very good one. What an earth do you base that on, how the hell would you know from a few interviews on the telly?
Chili Palmer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I have a feeling Gerrard might turn out to be a goodun'.
Molby Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 No, but I can see Xabi Alonso becoming one in the future. I don't see Carragher becoming one, or at least not a very good one. remember Carra cajoling Dudek before the pens in Istanbul? that's as good an indicator of future promise as anything else negative one could ever come up with about him, put together
Hassony Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 What an earth do you base that on, how the hell would you know from a few interviews on the telly? I used to think that Jamie Redknapp would make a good manager some day
Chili Palmer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 remember Carra cajoling Dudek before the pens in Istanbul? that's as good an indicator of future promise as anything else negative one could ever come up with about him, put together I think a good indication that Carra might be good is in the same match, when we got the pen, everyone was celebrating but Carra was the one that had the calm mind to go and try to get Gattuso sent off. I remember Rafa saying that he doesn't celebrate because he knows he needs to stay calm and think logically. Carra did that in the most passionate circumstances. Having said that, he would need shooting if he brought his passion for the long 'gid rid quick' ball into our style of play...
badtodabone Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 No, but I can see Xabi Alonso becoming one in the future. I don't see Carragher becoming one, or at least not a very good one. out of all of them i can see Carra being a good manager possibly even for us one day
Chili Palmer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I used to think that Jamie Redknapp would make a good manager some day sadly, so did I. Not my finest moment.
johngibo YPC Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 with so much intellectual brilliance in his position Steady

Lawro turned out to be a brilliant manager didn't he

I don't think that would mean he would necessarily have a team like that. He wouldn't be telling someone like Messi to hoof it
Chili Palmer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Carra plays to his strengths and limitations. I don't think that would mean he would necessarily have a team like that. He wouldn't be telling someone like Messi to hoof it I think I agree although I would say that while he does have limitations as a player I don't think there is any doubt that he likes the long ball. He plays it when he is under no pressure remember.
Antynwa Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 No, but I can see Xabi Alonso becoming one in the future. I don't see Carragher becoming one, or at least not a very good one. Who knows? But honestly. I think he can make an excellent manager.
KentyRed Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 ive always though Alan Hansen would have made a good manager but maybe he enjoys the telly too much.
johngibo YPC Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I think I agree although I would say that while he does have limitations as a player I don't think there is any doubt that he likes the long ball. He plays it when he is under no pressure remember. Under no pressure perhaps, but i don't think he plays it often when he has a midfield pass availableAnd besides, long balls aren't bad per se
yellow jumper Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 alonso likely to be a good manager. clever player, in all senses. cosmopolitan. achieved lots. worked and learned from some of the best. calm and considered.
Chili Palmer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 And besides, long balls aren't bad per se no, played right and at the right time. I don't think Carra gets either right that often. I do admit that it will have little impact on whether or not he becomes a good manager.
Koogan Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I read recently that Sami was going to join the Leverkusen coaching staff. I hope that's not true. AFAIK, no such thing has been reported here in Finland. Read somewhere that he'll still play one more season.
£440,000 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I used to think Danny Murphy might end up managing us one day. I don't any more, but I think he might end up being a good mid-level manager. There must be less incentive for the top players to go into management these days. It's not like they need to keep working.
Coyler Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Don't know about the management, but I always think that Xabi's and Carra's sons are going to be savage footballers, more so than other players' kids, for some reason.
dorgie Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 alonso likely to be a good manager. clever player, in all senses. cosmopolitan. achieved lots. worked and learned from some of the best. calm and considered. John Barnes ticked all those boxes too. He wasn't a very good manager though Ya can never tell.
johngibo YPC Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 John Barnes ticked all those boxes too. He wasn't a very good manager though Ya can never tell. So did Glenn Hoddle
