How would you rate the leagues? I know they change year-by-year, but how would you rate them now, particularly with how well their players would settle in to playing in the Premier League. We have the debates on how well the Dutch or German leagues would provide players, but it looks like Portugal does pretty well pound-for-pound. Scotland used to provide great players years back, but now it is rubbish.

in terms of viewing...?

there are a surprising amount of decent games to be seen in La Liga if you are prepared to ignore the pull of Barca and Real Madrid and ignore the fact they the game you are watching wont be a title decider. Most teams keep it on the floor and you'll see much more football than you will if you watch a PL game not involving MU/Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool/Spurs. Valencia and Villareal are both quality outifts and are well worth watching. I've watched 7 or 8 Depo la Coruna games this season and although theyre in the bottom half, the games have been good more often than not - a highlight being a 3-3 draw with Sevilla a while back which I remember talking about at the time! Again ignoring the obvious 2 teams, I'd say they are my favourite Spanish team.

The French league is good because there are about 6 teams that could win it, the quality is pretty even amongst the likes of Lille, Marseille, Rennes and Lyon and I reckon Rennes are the team more deserving of winning it, apart from that I only watch specific teams in Holland and have lost interest in Italian football since Rafa left Inter.

I tried watching the portugeuse league but cant f***ing stand it, someone in the crowd farts and 4 players fall over, its s***. I know its stereotypical of portuguese players but its sadly true and they live up to it enormously, it makes me doubt the ability of Villas Boas to 'cut it' in a league where the slightest touch doesnt draw a foul or where he'd need a more physical edge to his teams/team selection and how that would impact on his tactics.

Apart from a few german games - mainly the showpice type of affairs where teams in the top 4 or 5 meet I've not watched anything else there - I'd imagine John Am Rhein could set you straight on that league though.

It's both though.

I'm curious about peoples opinions are about why the Dutch or the Portuguese league players may be good or bad.

Personally I like watching in order:

1. Spain

2. France

3. Holland

4. Germany

5 Italy.

I'd guess the chances of success for Liverpool would follow the same to be honest.

depends, given the 'style' in each league I'd rather a defender from Germany more than Spain due to the more physical nature of that league, I'd prefer a winger from Spain or Portugal due to the more technical nature of those leagues, and I'd prefer a striker from Germany again due to the physical nature of the defenders he comes up against on a week by week basis than one from the other leagues

I think the dutch league is flawed in that the defenders are a bit robust but cant handle the technical pacey players, a bit like you'd view defenders in the championship here for example - can cope admirably with the rough and tumble but put a bit of skill in front of them and they melt away.

Do you rate the Premier League by how well you think domestically grown players would fare in continental leagues?

Besides the English and the Irish Premier League, I'd say the good old Swedish league with our magnificent stadia

And the playing style is still very much influenced by the great mentor that came here from The Englands during the 80'ies

I go

England

Spain

Italy

Germany

France

Portugal

Holland

in terms of how 'appealing' the football is to me, rather than the quality of it. Russia will be up there soon.

then take ya pick from the rest.

Scotlands atrocious, don't even consider it. People reckon the 'Old Firm' is a massive game - they play each other at least 4 times a season - usually 5 or 6. I even saw someone on here put it down as one of the biggest games in the world. Its s****!

I like Hearts anyway, and they'll always be s***.

In terms of how well players settle, I think its completely down to the player.
