jimmylibel Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Just on RTÉ Radio. He's apparently declared to play for Ireland.
Cobs Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 did he leave his motor in a carpark in Dublin long enough to claim residency ?
jimmylibel Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Irish granny apparently. Hasn't he already played for England? I'm hoping he'll be ineligible.
Raj Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Irish granny apparently. Did he borrow Cascarino's or is this legitimate?
jimmylibel Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Did he borrow Cascarino's or is this legitimate? Cascarino's was legitimate... he just claimed it wasn't cos he eventually found out his mother was adopted. Doesn't change anything though.
Raj Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Cascarino's was legitimate... he just claimed it wasn't cos he eventually found out his mother was adopted. Doesn't change anything though. Oh. Never knew that.I think he'll do ok for Ireland, if he is selected
Boca Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Nothing on any radio station's lunchtime news on this.
jimmylibel Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Pennant wants call to play for IrelandTuesday, 8 March 2011 14:25 Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant has revealed he qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland and would appreciate a call-up from Giovanni Trapattoni. Pennant has been capped at underage level for England but has yet to pick up a senior cap, meaning he is still eligible to play for the Republic through an Irish grandfather. He told BBC Radio Stoke: 'I'm 28, I'm not getting any younger and I'd like to play international football, whether it's with England or Ireland. 'I'd love to play for England but it's just never happened. 'I don't think it's going to happen, not because of my ability, but maybe misdemeanours in the past that have put that to a halt. 'They're looking at younger, up-and-coming talent which is great for England.' He added: 'Who's to say that Ireland can't get to the next World Cup? If I could be a part of that with Ireland, that would be great. 'If I've got a chance to play international football with Ireland, I'm going to take it with both hands. 'They've asked previously and I said "I want to try and play for England", but I never closed the door on it. 'I actually looked into it and texted my agent. I think he's contacted them to say "he's eligible to play and he's interested", so we'll see what happens. 'Now they know that I'm interested, maybe they'll start watching me in games. 'You can't just click your fingers and say "pick me for the team". 'You've got to be playing well for your club before you play for any country.' RTE
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Oh. Never knew that.I think he'll do ok for Ireland, if he is selectedhe'll never do anything for anyone
Raj Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 he'll never do anything for anyone i thought he was doing quite well for Stoke. Thats his level
Gerry Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 'I don't think it's going to happen, not because of my ability, but maybe misdemeanours in the past that have put that to a halt. haha I do love players who have no sodding idea about how limited they are as footballers. Of course Jermaine, you never had hte chance to play for England because of your "misdemeanours. And the fact you're not good enough.
carrafan Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 haha I do love players who have no sodding idea about how limited they are as footballers. Of course Jermaine, you never had hte chance to play for England because of your "misdemeanours. And the fact you're not good enough. Have you forgotten the time when he was getting two assists and a goal every game and still being dropped by that Spaniard for the next game?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 or the time he'd be ripping it up in Spain but only an irregular starter
Cheesecake Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 'You've got to be playing well for your club before you play for any country." Give me a WGive me an AGive me an NGive me a KGive me an EGive me an Rand what does that spell? PENNANT
Nebraska Red Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Trappatoni just fell on his ass laughing. Pennant playing international footy, hilarious.
carrafan Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Trappatoni just fell on his ass laughing. Pennant playing international footy, hilarious. Who do Ireland have on their right?
Nebraska Red Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Who do Ireland have on their right? The Isle of Man and then Wales.
carrafan Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 The Isle of Man and then Wales. Pennant bigger than either of those, in his mind.
Boca Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Who do Ireland have on their right? Liam Lawrence or a headless chicken that plays in Russia. Coleman from the bluenoses may make the position his own eventually. Not exactly blessed with talent in that area. Still don't want Pennant though.
Raj Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Pennant is a decent player He is and will be a useful option for them if selected
