A top-flight football match in Brazil went ahead despite torrential flooding that let spectators literally swim around the seats.

Sao Paulo's match against Palmeiras looked certain to be called off when the 80,000-seater Morumbi Stadium was hit by rain... then more rain, and then yet more rain.

So bad did the deluge become that several rows of seats were completely flooded, with fans swimming and diving around the seats.

Marcelo Aparacido Ribeiro de Souza decided that the show must go on, however - much to the dismay of the Palmeiras coach, former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari - and the game kicked off after a delay of just over an hour.

The match had to be halted 25 minutes later - but this time it was temporary floodlight failure rather than more rain that was to blame.

Eventually the game played to a conclusion, with former Internazionale striker Adriano coming on to score a late equaliser for Pameiras to put his side within a point of championship leaders Corinthians.
