dog whining at night

New dog, had it for 2 weeks. We all love it and its been easy to get it trained to not s*** on the carpet.

The only problem is that it whines for us when we go upstairs to bed.

I have tried giving it the run of all the downstairs rooms, i've tried making a den for it with a basket and toys in one room. Nothing seems to work.

 

Got to get some sleep, how can we get this dog to settle down at night ?
