We need to ship out the players on the fringe and bring in players who improve the first team. It bugs me that we look for squad players all the time, the players we bring in should be first XI players pushing the first XI we have back to squad players.

 

A couple of average players are playing too many games.

Anyone know Insua is doing in Turkey? Got the feeling he was rushed into a 1st team position and that given time to mature as a player he could be an asset for us. Especially considering our LB situation.

Some of these players are on huge contracts, moving them on wont be easy.

We have to look to move on, Cole, Jovanovic, Poulson, Konchesky but as the previous poster said because they're on massive contracts here that might be difficult, we've made this mistake so many times and i think it won't happen again under the new owners. Hopefully because we got Cole and Jovanovic on bosmans we can settle for less in terms of a transfer fee and that might attract clubs to them, hopefully they have ambition to still play and not sit doing nothing and pick up their wages, i get the feeling someone like Cole would move if he knew he didn't figure the same for Jovanovic.

 

Then we have players like Skrtel, Maxi, Kuyt who id sell if we got decent offers for them but i also think they've proved they can offer the 1st team something if called upon, so if the offers don't come in for them id keep them and these should be our squad players not part of our strongest 11.

 

There should be a concerted effort to reduce our wage bill this summer and if we do pay big wages make sure your getting value for money, we have too many players on big money that are offering very little return for that money. We need to start promoting players from within to fill the squad and add top quality that can come straight into the first team.

Yes we have a crop of young players in the 16-19 year old bracket that look a bit special; Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Coady, Silva, Wilson, Pacheco etc and we need to try to integrate them into the squad. Hopefully we'll look to promote from there rather than signing players who are pushing 30 on huge contracts just because they don't command a transfer fee to fill the squad out. I think its worth the shot at developing a group of young players that could set the club up for the next generation.

 

A good run in the Carling next season would help - I'd be approaching it like Arsenal, as almost a purely youth development exercise. The older players we've signed on big contracts have been an almost unmitigated disaster - Voronin, Cole, Jovanovic etc.

We have far too many players who apparently need to have good players around them. We need players who are good in their own right, who make the game change, who make the other quality players great and who inspire the, at most 3, good but not great team players fit in...

 

here it goes but since others have started it we have...

lose - Aurelio (could have been so much more for this fella)

we need a quality left sided fullback / wingback and this position is covered by the combination above

Soto - happy to have around for cover as 4/5 choice

 

Need - top quality centre half to challenge Agger / Carra

 

Centre Mid - Gerrard / Mereiles / Lucas / Shelvey

Need - one more quality midfielder, probably a holding player as only Lucas gives us this

 

Attacking midfielders (I have to say this to group a number of players who are neither left nor right etc)

Kuyt, Cole, Maxi - keep 1, lose 2 (at the moment I'd see Maxi go first, and Cole has 6 months to show why he should justify staying over Kuyt, who I also think I would be happy to see leave.

 

Need - jeez the need is great... last time round the king bought Beardsley (Suarez), Aldridge (Caroll), Barnes (?) and Houghton (?) - it is these two we need to replace the most!!

 

So, whether they are attacking wide players of simply attacking players who can play wide... I dunno, I trust the King.. but we need em and we need em to be good, very good

don't care if he goes - N'gog, Pacheco (if he was really anything at all he'd be further than he is now... sort of huy who may go on to do well in a Spanish side like Villareal or Mallorca and then get a big move in the future perhaps, a la Forlan?)

 

the replacements here will depend on who replaces the attacking midfielders and if any of them can play either up front or off the front man (which of course Gerrard can do)

 

... then we have the young players who, let's be fair, we might see 1 - at the most 2 - of and only in about 3 years time...

 

 

We can only submit a 25 man squad and mine would be

that's 6 players we need, raising funds and clearing wages through sales of...

 

Skrtl, Aquilani, Maxi, Kuyt (£25mil?) + £25 mil that was committed to Suarez before the Nando cash came in + £15 mil more that I reckon they would have been prepared to pay in Jan if the right players were available.

 

Are those 6 players out there for £75 million (backing them up with say a few squad players who we might end up keeping - Aurelio / soto) and youngsters)?
