kenny really seems to have taken the squad by the scruff of the neck , given them a good shake , woken them up from the slumber ............ he has opened their eyes to the potential that is there and released their attacking spirit when going forward and when we dont have the ball , he has returned us to the days of rush when we start our defending at the front man and we are hunting the opposition in packs too ............. and the tactical awareness being instilled by kenny and the backroom staff is awesome ....

from a situation of dredding the next game , now i can't wait to see the guys back out on the park ............

Liverpool 0 - 1 Wigan Carragher (og)

I'm wondering if we even need to change the formation currently. Players maybe, but not formation,

Against Wigan, just as against Stoke, there will be times when we only have two at the back with the current formation. It's proving to be the most attacking set up we've seen for years, with the two wide players in the back 3 given opportunities to join attacks (independently).

That said, I'd like to have Kuyt, Meireles, Suarez, Lucas, Gerrard and Maxi in the starting 11, which means the 3, 1, 4, 1 we're currently playing becomes difficult, as we lose Johnson and Kelly and both are deserving of a starting place.

agree entirely with that team, with the front 3 being flexible, with plenty of movement.

Only issue is its blooming international friendlies this week.

Gerrard and Kelly withdrawn from squad, (hopefully thats just Kenny protecting the players)

Meireles in Portugal squad to play Argentina (in Switzerland thankfully)

Lucas in Brazil squad to play France

Kuyt in Netherlands squad to play Austria

Johnson, Agger and Poulsen (no biggy!) in squad for Denmark V England

Skrtel in Slovakia squad to play Luxembourg

Reina in Spain squad to play Colombia

+Pacheco is bound to be in the Spain under 20 1/2's squad or something

Got to hope everyone comes back fit and ready to go, no international for Suarez by looks of it though

I'd play this:

-------------------------------------------The Manc ;-)-------------------------------------------

----------------------Carra-----------------Srktel-----------------Agger-----------------------

Kelly------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Johnson

-------------------------------Lucas------------------Gerrard----------------------------------

--------------------------Merieles----------------------------Suarez---------------------------

-----------------------------------------------Kuyt-------------------------------------------------

Only way of improving that is Carroll in for Dirk and I think that is our best 11.

we're either going to smash them 5-0, a proper hanging out the back of them pounding

or we'll regress, play schit and sneak a 1-0 froma Gerrard howitzer

especially as its only got 9 outfield players

no way kelly and johnson will be dropped and quite rightly

It's f***ing Wigan....I'd go this:

-------------Pepe----------

-----------Agger-----------

Kelly--------------------Johnson

-----------LucASS---------

Gerrard-----Raul---------Maxi

Suarez-----Derek-------N'Gog

And we'd win 10-0

Wigan have scored the least number of goals in the Prem, overall and away from home (10 goals in 12 aways, only 2 wins).

They've been playing 4 5 1 / 4 3 3 so I'd be very surprised if we stay with 3 5 2 (though we'll only have the players back for one training day from international duty so who knows).

McCarthy (we nearly bought him two years ago but he turned us down) is a key player for them, linking midfield with defence and attack. He and N'Zogbia need closing down, predominantly from/on their left.

Expect a form of pressing / attacking 4 4 2 looking like this on the attack :

Stoke played 4-5-1 and Chelsea played a form of 4-3-3 and Kenny played the 3-5-2 system against them.

We played three at the back purely to counter the fact Stokes only threat is height. Chelsea played a diamond 4 4 2, not 4 3 3.

You have a point, to be fair, in facing off against three forwards is one of the great strengths of a back three, but Wigan don't have that much threat. Closing down McCarthy and N'Zogbia is whats important.

(I dun goofed putting the 4 3 3 after the 4 5 1 - it's the 4 5 1 they've been playing latterly without turning it into much offense).
