Thought Jamie deserved his own thread. His performance was special yesterday. Having a captain of a defence is a real bonus and he gives us that vital leadership at the back. You simply don't keep out teams like Chelsea unless you can martial a defence to work together perfectly and concentrate for 90 minutes. That performance and that result showed why Carragher is going to be key for us for a while yet. He looks even more effective, and less exposable in a 3 centre back system , as well.

Yep, he was awesome yesterday and that block was sensational. Big decision to play him after so long out and no games but another right decision by the manager. Will be interesting to see what Kenny does for Wigan.

Agree he needs to remain as a key player; but I think he needs more rest than he's had over recent years. Might have been he was refreshed from a few months off yesterday, he looked more energetic - mlore like the old Carra. I'd be resting him against the lesser sides at home when its preferable that we have centre halves who will use the ball well, but he'd be playing in the tough aways every time.

Recent history suggests players who hit his current age benefit hugely from having some games off. Sami is a great example - looked shot until he started getting breaks then came back to his best.

I thought that was his best performance in a good few years, looked back to his best. Maybe the time out not only rested his body but also his mind. Looked f***ing shattered at half time. Heart of a lion.

exceptional game from him.

Carragher looked so relaxed in the interview after the game aswell, really good to see because I suspect carragher has felt the pressure of things failing more than most. He takes on the responsibility so when things have been bad he's been carrying a weight on his shoulders and his game suffered for a while.

all three central defenders played well, but Carra was world class yesterday, he made up his mind that torres wasn't going to score before the game

Carragher is an outstanding defender. Still is, has lost a bit of pace, but his anticipation and awareness are still there, as is the motivational and organisational input.

He will be a key part of our defence for the next couple of years.

We have missed him.

I loved Kenny's comment about Carragher's influence in talking people through a game and literally pulling them into position. No accident that Skrtel looked the part again yesterday.

Very underrated part of what Carragher brings to the team

I saw Skrtel jump in the air and win a header against an opponent yesterday. Wrestling arms/attempted Vulcan nerve grip nowhere to be seen.

The block was ace but FFT didn't hit it cleanly and it looked like it was heading straight for that big grey bald thing we call a goalie had JC not been there - Not taking anything away from Carra.

Reina knew that as well. You could see from the replay it looked like the shot was heading for the gap between Reina boots....Reina adjusts himself accordingly.

Playing 3 at the back is going to help Carra no end, he reads the game as good as anyone defensively so playing him centrally of a 3 is perfect. He has players alongside him with a bit of pace and Agger who can bring the ball out so there's less need for him to carry the ball or look to pass it from the back which is his weakness.

I do think we still need someone to replace Skrtel and Kelly could probably be that player, then we'd have 2 quick good ball playing centre backs each side of Carragher,

I'd imagine Carra looked so relaxed after the game cause he was absolutely shattered!

Well in Carra, back to his reliable and determined best.

 Ten-week break, big away game, ten-week break, big away game...

Carra was reportedly questioned by the police after the game.

Caught on camera wandering around with £50M of Abramovich's possessions in his pocket.

The more I think about that, the more i believe that we made it up

Mentioned it at the time but his injury was the best thing to happen to him. Carra has been grossly overplayed in the last three years, He's been the one constant in the team wether it be a Champions League Quarter Final or a Europa League qualifier he's always been picked. His form had suffered greatly due to it so having 2 months out to rest and re energize will hugely benefit us.

This is just great :

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed how he went out to buy a DVD showing Kenny Dalglish’s greatest footballing moments, to show 40 of Liverpool’s first team and academy players how their manager use to play:

“A lot of the young academy players and even some of the first team are so young they had never seen him play. Everyone sat fascinated while the DVD was being screened, even if we did have a bit of a laugh about it coming from a bargain bin. When Kenny walked in, everyone was cheering. It was a great moment.”
