Buying a second hand iPhone

Ok well I'm after an iPhone and a girl i know's mate is selling a 16gb 3gs unlocked jailbroke etc for £270 - supposedly less than 6 months old...

 

Not sure whether to buy yet but may have a look and jus wondered if theres any general pointers or advice like being able to tell if it really is like 2 yr old or been nicked or summat!

 

Never bought a second hand mobile before but the contract i got was s**** and has 14 months left!
